Saxmundham and the Sizewell coal

Recommended Posts

I was going to go out last night but the weather was very grim, seeing the forecast was for heavy rain tonight, I decided to nip out to my local (to work) station and photograph the signal box, and then head for Leiston to photograph the Sizewell "coal"

"Coal" is the term used by people who think the secret police come and break down your house if you mention New Klear stuff (shhh...)

I've all the plans drawn out for building the station building at Sax (OH's parents work there), just need to find the time to getting around to build it! (00 scale) Not drawn out the signalbox, although thinking about it it may be an easier starting point!

Follow up to this - I had a telephone interview with a nice polite DC from the BTP regarding my car "being reported in the vicinity of Sizewell" - when asked what I was doing I answered honestly, "photographing the train" - the urge to give a more "witty" reply almost overcame me but I sensed the guy knew how pointless the question was (would I admit to anything if I was ?), but he'd been given the job to do and I wasn't going to wind him up as I will want to go back sometime.

I guess we have to use "New Klear" now the Johnson's stuff isn't available.

Thanks for these Dave, and especially the note about being phoned up. I may have to look at this area in a couple of weeks on "official" business, so I'll have to make sure to get a proper-looking letter from my client and show it to any types in trenchcoats that may be hanging around.

Hi Dave,

according to EDF Energy, Sizewell's operators, there are both planned and un-planned outages currently taking place and this as you say, could explain the changes to the usual timetable.

Planned outages also taking place at Hartlepool Number 2 reactor, Dungeness B and Heysham 1.

cheers

Mike

As usual, Dave, a very interesting and informative thread. Have stumbled on any '60's photos yet on your electronic travels?

I did find a very small photo taken just outside Southminster with a Nuke Flask train hauled by a Type 15. Whilst I could just make out that the "Flask" looked remarkably similar to the modern ones the rest of the train was almost impossible to see clearly.

I wondered whether the single Type 15 actually made it!

Best, Pete
