I haven't made the Basingstoke show for a few years as it always seems to fall on a weekend we are away. I'm hoping to make it this year though as our plans have changed. Looks like a very good line up.

And now for something completely different...  a model railway layout which has the railway in the countryside.  This is Alkham which is appearing at the Basingstoke 2013 show. Photo courtesy of British Railway Modelling, provided by Ian Hollis.

What is that?  Where is the railway?  Try this photo...

If you like these views then use the zoom and see the detail.  For example:-

* the dog looking in the water of a garden pond;

* the group chatting to the right of the TK delivering to the pub;

* the broken railing under the tree in the park;

* the air vent in the base of the chimney flue of the flint cottage;

* the variety of fence styles...  each appropriate to the use and location.

Please feel free to add your comments about these pictures.

Fisherton Sarum is in attendance, so appearing closer to home as Basingstoke is of course on the ex LSWR main west of England line and its shed was of the same design than that which appears on Fisherton Sarum.

Thanks to Graham for putting a track plan of Fisherton Sarum on the associated thread for layout plans.

Thank you also for posting some pictures of your layout courtesy of Chris Nevard - beat me to it!.  Just to show there is no hard feelings, here is one which was taken earlier... photo provided by Chris Nevard.

Alkham has given great pleasure in looking at the ten or so images which I have received...  and made the choice of selecting a couple for RMWeb that more difficult.  Here is another photo of Alkham which shows the diversity of modelling on this impressive model.

How often do you see permanent way with front and back stretcher bars for turnouts?

A nice touch is the car tyre in use as a swing...to the left of the conservatory (in the middle ground).
