JMA coal hoppers finished. Plus a transrail grid.

Well after a final push ive managed to get these wagons finished! The blog entries show that this has taken a considerable length of time, but this shouldn't be confused with this being a difficult project, more that i take an age to complete anything. Obligatory shot of them on my loft layout.   This is one of the end wagons which have recieved heavier weathering, due to ( i think ) brake dust from the loco, apart from that there is not a massive amount of weathering/dirt from coal, in a

Testing testing

The JMA's continue (slowly) to materialise, i've built all the bogies to the same pattern shown in my previous blog. Once the frames were soldered up i gave them a good running session to see that everything was working and running properly. This seemed to go well so i added all the detail that i had been creating, such as brake detail, dampers etc. After this, ( which has admittedly taken since the last update!) they got another run or two After this things went a bit downhill, one or two b

JMAs and bogies, some progress.

Well its been a heck of a long time since i've done anything on this blog, spare time for modelling has been at a premium recently, though i have been tinkering with bits of brass and plastic to try to improve the bogies on the JMA's. All of the S kits bogies have now gone in the bin, as well as the wheelsets which have been replaced with some fine examples from Colin Craig, complete with the correct pattern brake discs. These are what i've come up with, yes just 1 pair! not an amazing acheiv

DapolsTiphook Rail KIA with added transfers

As I stated in my last entry, quite a while ago! these wagons needed a bit of work to bring them up to scratch, and re- transfering to show a few more of the multitude of small printed detail that do adorn the prototype. This shows the two wagons ive done so far one is a Tiphook branded KIA,the other, a IHA, which adds a litte variety as these are seen running mixed in with the KIA's and the various other steel coil carriers, the wagons are on the dirty side of weathering, based on photos thi

JMA's & KIA's in OO - some progress

The JMA's i've been working on for some time on and off have reached this stage. This wagon still needs three thin vertical stripes of blue adding, where it was welded and repainted along the lines of the hopper partitions, the NP logos have been painted out, with little care, as per the prototype. They also need some weathering, though not too much as the prototype seems to stay fairly clean. These wagons have hit the buffers at the mo, the bogies, which in look are a reasonable represent

JMA Transfers

Having bought the transfers over a year ago, i've finally got round to applying them. Thesepictures, posted by Beast 66606 have been a huge help. thanks! This wagon is virtually complete, transfer-wise, the others have had the toothpaste stripe applied and the NP logo. The majority of the transfers are small printed details and i'm impressed with how small the type has been created and is still very legible. Ive also made the lever for uncoupling the buckeye type coupler, brass wire bent to

JMA hoppers again

This project though moving along painfully slowly, is moving again! The wagons have had the blue and grey paint applied, this has been such a long time coming and although theres still a lot to do, its good to see them starting to look like JMA's. I used precision paints national power blue and grey, but to fade it to the level that these wagons have appeared in for the last few years a lot of white paint was added. I decided this would be the easiest and hopefully the way to get the most con

JMA coal hopper progress

Hi all, Thought i'd restart this topic which was mainly started by Ian Fisher on the old rmweb: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=40988 I'd already started on this previously but hadn't made agreat deal of progress, this gave me a bit of a kick-start and some good info and pics of the prototype. The JMA, originally used by National Power before purchase by EWS shares the same basic bodyshell as the Freightliner HHA, with Bachmann releasing their excellent model of the HH
