Is anybody reading any of this?

Anybody out there?

I have no idea if it is worth my while bothering with this. At least with the old site, I could see the number of reads changing, and there were some helpful hints for me in the comments. (Mike's earlier comments on RMweb 4 were a continuation of his wisdom from RMweb 3 thread).

There is a problem with the shoebeams which arrived recently. I could tell what I have found, but I don't have reason to believe that it matters to anyone else, so I'll keep the information to myself.

Yes it is worthwhile. Your posts may eventually make me feel guilty enough to finish my own Southern Pride model (a 3H in my case). I can sympathise with your point though - I've only had a couple of posts on my layout blog ... alright it may not be that exciting but still. I think people seem to be passing by the blogs in a way they didn't do with the old style threads.

FWIW, I'm averaging only two views/day on mine* - judging from the "latest visitors" panel. That's far far down on the old-style threads, whether this is because it isn't counting guest visits or what I don't know.

Less or zero if I don't post anything, more if I do, obviously.

I've stopped by a couple of times to read your posts but know of little south of the Scottish Border, far less south of the Thames - so this precludes any meaningful input from these parts but good modelling is good modelling in my book and I'm always happy to read such.

Hi Dave

Most definitely worth continuing with your posts. I read them in the old place and look forward to reading them here. Which version buffet car does the SP kit supply- the ex RB or RU as (I'm sure you are aware) there are differences between the two types.

Yep! I've been following this so please keep going.

I must admit to struggling with aspects of the new forum and sometimes wondering whether it's worth it but that's another matter.

Hi Dave

I transferred my stuff over from the old forum, and even though put a entry stating its all on the new site,i have still had a good few comments left there.,since doing so.

On here peoplekeep having a look, but no comments yet, is it that people prefer the old site !

I know im new to blogs and just about got my head round this site now.guess people will slowly come round to using it,eventually.

Don't panic !

There is a "viewed" counter when you look at the Blogs home page.

But yes I agree the number of viewings seem to be way down and it does sometimes feel as if you are posting into a cyberdarkness.

I think part of what may be causing this is that under the old system a comment posting in a thread brought it back to the top, encouraging folik to look at the coment and maybe chip in themselves

Yes the old system seemed to work better IMO, although I do like the idea of comments remaining at the bottom though as it makes the actual modelling content far more readable, but I must admit I have far less enthusiasm for updateing my own threads/blogs these days as there seems to be little or no feedback on the blog system.

Yes Dave, I'm also out here and have been following your blog.

Problems with the shoebeams you say? I did wonder when I read your previous postings if anybody makes shoe beams specifically for 4REPs. I couldn't recall any manufacturer doing so. REPs were unique for BR(S) units in carrying two shoes on each shoe beam. Is that the issue that you were referring to?

Hi Dave & Russ,

Dave... I'm reading ;) , I was waiting till you got to the Shoebeams ( aka height limiting bar ) and their attachment, whats the problem if it aint the twin shoe issue. I also think that the new way the system works wil cause a slowdown in replys and reading until people are up to speed - I'm still floundering around the DOT 4 version myself

Russ, I was aware that the shoebeam ( aka height limiting bar ) on REP's had a pair of shoes ... I would have just cut off the 'Nub' that represents the sincle shoe to allow for better running with third rail :) , Paul Wade removed the 'shoe' from the 'beams' on all TWY units to avoid any catching in the gaps or forcing the bogie up if there was a rise in the " Juice Rail " that didn't correspond with the running rails exactly.

My , almost finished, NR GLV's have had the shoe removed off of the underside of the Shoe Beam on the SR MK4 power bogie and BR(s)1 bogie from the inner end to avoid this problem.

I've got a VEP to do some where and was tempted by the REP to go with my TC, makes a change from the usual 33/1 :D

Definitely worth continuing (pretty please) - I'm still running in some motor bogies, then I need to get started on my DC Kits 3D while I psyche myself up to have a go at my MJT 4-CIG (and I need different motor bogies for that).

Personally, I find it *very* difficult to find what I'm interested in among the blogs, and I don't usually comment unless I think I've got something useful to say. On the previous forum, I could follow the titles, here it seems to be mostly guesswork as to which blogs will interest me. No doubt we'll all work out a way of living with this version in the end.

Its becoming clear that plenty of us ARE reading/following your construction, please keep it up!

I'm interested as I regularly used the Bournemouth Electrics in the 1970s, in particular the 92 service, to and from my Boarding School in Christchurch. I can probably still recite the timetable.

Like some others I find the blogs awkward to follow, as a reader I'm interested to see what comments others have made. I prefer the forum and threads section, as I find things easier to browse, and they have a read counter at the side

All the best,

Dave.T
