'All the small things' Part 2 (N gauge 4-wheeled carriages)

Well, after the last post to 1:450th scale, these small things are positively massive. You may recall that my 'Victoria Bridge' is fashioned as a 'modern image steam' layout, depicting the scene as you might see it today as part of the Severn Valley Railway.

That said, there is little in the scene that really dates it, so there are times when a Victorian interloper, or a modern image express train, help keep things varied and unpredictable (invoking the 'my train set' rule!).

I am keen on the odd bit of non-specific, non-rivet counting modelling whimsicalness.... like carriages built from parts bin debris whilst paying more attention to something mildly diverting on telly.

Rivet counters avert your eyes:

Homebrewed GWR four wheelers, presumably absorbed by the GWR from a pre-grouping railway somewhere in the top left hand corner of Cleobury Mortimer....

The ingredients included, an old Farish LMS (ish) four wheeler donated by a friend, some handy brass bits from N-Brass, some bits of another plastic RTR carriage (try and guess) and an unsuspecting Toad...

The re-arranged toad is actually panelled with bits of a Dapol Gresley carriage, which had been shorn of its sides to be replaced with some Ultima etchings (more of which soon)... as you can tell, I don't like to throw anything away!

More small things tomorrow... maybe an announcement of a new T Gauge project!

Well they might not be prototypical but they most certainly look the part! I do like you Gresley/Toad conversion!

I guess it is simply a 'Toad Vanden Plas' luxury version... it will look better with some ventilators or some sort of lamp devices along the roof, partly to hide the stove pipe chimney that is still there! Maybe they need their own micro layout.. a tiny terminus. In a Cleobury Mortimer style...

Oooh nice! Very appealling coaches. The short wheel base one has real character, and the other one could easily pass for a standard GWR coach. Good stuff.

Lovely stuff and a brilliant use for bits of Gresleys. I may have to try that with the one I'm currently butchering to test some sleeper sides on.

For the toad - perhaps an observation toad with windows for the general manager to use 8)

Well I have a ready supply of old Toads to manipulate...

(/League of Gentlemen 'Harvey' voice /off....)

I have also got a plan to make just that sort of 'observation toad' using the larger 'picture' windows from an old Farish 'mainline' carriage found in the same bits box....

Love the look of the homemade coaches.

Remind me greatly of the one being used as a home in Will Hay's 1937 "OH Mr. PORTER!"

It got dragged through a field and put back on the rails......
