Nearly 50 shades of sky blue......

A brief entry this evening, but I havent popped up to say hello since Christmas, hopefully more to come soon...

I had been troubled by my Victoria Bridge diorama basking under a mediterannean sky that seemed a little bright, the blue a fair bit too intense. My plan is for the scene to suggest a bright but breezy day in September, around SVR Autumn Gala time, which will allow for the parade of pacifics and demonstration freights that are always crowd pleasers at exhibitions.

(The 'modern image preserved steam' card allows pretty much anything to run within the realms of moderate fantasy... though the bridge looks at it best with a Prarie and a short rake of GWR carriages on top!)

Anyhow, last night I set about toning down the blueness of the sky, hinting at a few speckled clouds without going for anything too threatening....

I'm pretty happy with it now, what do you all reckon?

It does give this little layout that little bit of something extra. Having toned it down a bit you can almost see the trees moving in a gentle breeze.

What is noticable is how much older liveries on steam locos blended in with the scenery. The coaches really stand out against the variety of greens you have used.

I have to say you have done a stunning job with this!

Thanks Stephen!

The sky is an important breakthough in dealing with a bit of modeller's block... we all get it, though I suspect I'm particularly prone... with the sky right I can get on with the illuminated 'roof' structure and front frame which will have the scene largely, sort of, finished.

That just leaves a few enjoyable jobs, which can be 'posted' through the front frame to finish it all off:

-A little more depth in the river: the lower edge of the frame will provide a 'dam' at the front that will retain 'water' while it dries, and finish things off neatly.

-Fencing.

-Distant Signal in the trees to the right.

-A small sprinkling of people (again think gala weekend) including an N gauge effigy of myself.

~and last but not least~

The revised face for the bridge (coming soon)

Bit of an optimist, are we? Where's the rain?! :-)

Seriously, it does change the feel of this little layout/diorama. A great model now looks evn better. Glad to hear your are over the modeller's block.

Oh dear... what have I started?

What'll be the next 50 shades installment I wonder?

The sky looks good but do I detect an overall red tint to the photo? - maybe the lighting or the white balance on the camera?

Aha, well I was careful to make it only 'nearly' 50 shades... wouldnt want to go the whole way in polite company!

Yep, the lighting, or my modest appreciation of what all the buttons on Mrs. J's camera do, has created a red tinge that isnt really there in reality. When its not snowing I will get some shots of it outside in natural light.

Thanks for all the kind comments, more installments soon!
