Outhouses dont Costa lot.... pt1.

Well thanks to our favourite tax paying coffee (and Tea) outlet I managed to acquire enough wood, I mean coffee stirrers to create the local 'Reading room' for the guys down at Longs logging line and the sawmill. Watch out though, that catch on the inside isn't terribly reliable!

Suitable dimensions were discovered online, where there are strangely many photos of outhouses! The web is a wonderful place if a little strange at times.

Plenty of cutting and chopping has brought this little 'reading room', 'dunny', 'thrown room' to life.

The woodwork has been completed, just waiting on the door hinges to be added and a occupant will be suitably painted, along with a little weathering in part 2.

But for now a couple of images to show where were at -

Thanks for reading

Dave.

Looks great - and full marks for imaginative use of materials. In my experience, it's generally better if the seat has a hole in it.....

Thanks, I was waiting for that.

There's a handy hole in the base that I can get a drill through, but I'm waiting on a sitting figure to see if I need to add a hole or not. As this is due to be an occupied room.

I'd be just as worried by those splinters as the lack of hole! Hardy men these loggers.

Looks great Dave, I always 'liberate' a handful of coffee stirrers when the opportunity arises.

Ha, close up shots always spot something dont they, they'll be suitably fettled before first use!

Thanks.

Simple, clean, yet full of atmosphere. What an excellent little model, Dave. Let's hope they don't need to go when it rains :-)

Thanks Mikkel, roofing has been completed and awaiting a good paint/stain/weathering and its first occupant!

Going to be using the same wood for sleepering an 'O'/14 layout.  Just looking on it as a tax rebate!

PS - I know what you mean about web resources - the 'Eglish Heritage 'pastscape' site has dozens listed - including a very nice 'two-holer' for those intimate little moments!

I know in the US the two holer were often used in snowy areas, but in this country its just showing off.

Ive seen discussions of more than 2 holer 's in the US too.

Good luck with the O/14 layout.

NB: if the need for these stirrers sees you in said coffee House far too often for comfort a bag of 500 or 1000 can be had on 'the bay' for around about a fiver.

Nah...  I prefer the tax rebate plus I've a wife who frequents the one at her workplace too!
