well its back with me to turn it into a loco which has been hand cleaned and then I need to fit sound to it. Well first attempt at a "cleaned" loco from one which I have weathered..

and a bit more detail - smokebox and boiler

and now the cab and tender

this takes a bit of doing but due to the water based nature of the weathering doesn't require any abrasives or T cut type applications - just water and some cotton buds

Hope its looks OK. Feedback is appreciated.

I didn't - it was built (a DJH kit) built and painted by Dave Varley.

I weathered it with my usual ink/water then powders and then have taken most of that back off using cotton wool buds and good old fashioned water

Thanks Eric and Gripper - wasn't kean to do this one as it would be expensive to have the loco repainted if I get it wrong. hopefully my customer will be happy with it - I am!

The cleaning up looks fine to me, although I feel the boiler bands are  too-in-your-face. I tended to darken the boler band lining on some locos, although it wasn't necessary on GWR and BR green locos as my "orange" lining colour was mid tan. Someone once put it in a nutshell...."You shouldn't be able to see the lining from a distance". I agree.

looking at the photo I see what you mean - next one I will try and leave some ink on them to tone them down - not sure what colour the painter used but looks like Humbrol Orange....??

Customer highly delighted as well as the sound fitted (SWD EXU Loksound 4) complete with two sugar cube speakers in the chassis - ah the joy of EM!
