Trains&armour

blog-0113401001391353189.jpgHaven't done any serious modelling for months now, and no railway related modelling for years. (collecting, yes, enough of that...)

So it's time to change all that. But something simple, something that can be finished in a reasonable timeframe. My first 00 rolling stock kit:

Removing mould lines and ejector marks:

Basic construction:

And, while I was modelling yesterday, a nice surprise came in the post, see the photo above. 10 spoke Star replacement wheels. Top marks for Hornby's Customer Service!

Added most of the underframe details:

The glue marks do show up nicely with flash on.... In reality they are hardly visible and will be completely hidden after painting.

Test load:

Enough for now. Next installment: Painting!

Very nice Sierd.Do the NEM pockets for coupling come with the kit then ?

No sometimes they are blue, but I think this is because they are spending too much time in the fridge, I keep finding footprints in the butter

Oh but that is fantastic!

(and the wagon looks nice too).

Jokes aside, it's very nice to see a build of this kit - somehow the Parkside GWR kits don't seem to be as common as the Coopercraft and Cambrian ones. A nice clean build too, very tempting although totally out of my curent modelling period.

Your modelling bench and shelves looks like a modeller's dream, lots of good stuff to get working on.

I actually have a couple of HO rhinos, from many years ago when I modelled African dioramas. Maybe they deserve a test run! I see Preiser also have one in HO: http://www.amazon.com/Preiser-PR29521-Rhinoceros-Walking-Models/dp/B003LUAQS2

Thanks Mikkel, and you're welcome to use my bench if you're ever in the area. Seeing your work there is still a lot I could learn from you!

At last - something my wife is interested in on RMweb: pictures of rhinos. Yes I have already seen your 'work' on the ANTB thread!

I forgot to ask about the tarpaulin rail.I assume you picked the diagram without one.

No, the Tarpaulin rail will be added, but the plastic rod provided was too flimsy. Will use copper wire instead, but my local hobby shop is 20 miles from here.... Perhaps a nice field trip this weekend!
