Wainwright C Class

Totally open the box modelling this, but with products this exquisite, do we really care? The grime is via Lord & Butler's Dirty Boy weathering, no connection other than a satisfied customer, as they say, but the quality of the work really impresses, I think. Yes, it can be regarded as a basis for further improvement, but on the other hand it looks very acceptable as is, from the overall tone to the variation in treatments on the boiler.

And what a cracking model the C class is. Mine runs like a treat and it was a straightforward job to put in a decoder. At last we're getting the humble 0-6-0 classes that we've wanted for so long, and so far we've very little to complain about.

I often wonder about the essential differences between US and UK modelling, or rather the varying attractions of the two prototypes. If you want huge and impressive engines, marvellous paint schemes, wonderfully dramatic scenery, then there's no contest - it's got to be the US. At the other end of the scale, though, there's little in the US scene to compare with the workaday charm of a small Edwardian goods locomotive like the C class, perhaps pottering about a yard with a few private owner wagons. The attractions are different, but equally valid. Isn't it great to have a hobby that can encompass such variety?

I'm certain that this loco forms my earliest of railway memories...  Until I was three years old I lived in a flat overlooking the ex-SECR line through Eltham (Well Hall).  Standing in my cot one evening I still remember a grimy 0-6-0 on a short goods train heading east toward Dartford!

One day I'm going to have one!

A very nice shot, Barry!

Although my interest lies in S.W. Scotland, I can't help but be impressed with such a lovely shot - my early experience of such loco power stems from the Caledonian McIntosh and Pickersgill types popular at Hurlford MPD on the G&SWR - irrespective of region if my planned modelling comes within 50% of that shown I'll be very happy! (that is without mentioning the photographic skill!). Well done, and once again a piece of inspiration for all who visit the RMWeb site. Kind regards,

Jock67B.

But on the other hand: the almost unlimited choise gives us the oppertunity to build what we like most.

From early Edwardian layouts to modern now to day.

From US to British; Swiss to Dutch etc.

From railway to tramways.

And througth the RMweb we have the possibility to look at beautifull work/layouts from people's personal choice.

I love that beautifull weathered loco.

Very nice indeed.  I can understand how much you like it, particularly in the setting of your fine layout.  There's something similar in my local Antics, different type of 0-6-0 but a similar finish.  'I don't want it', I tell myself, but I keep looking...

It's a beautiful model, Al, in a lovely setting.

I'm afraid I succumbed to the colourful, pretty version, though!...

I also succumbed, CK - I mean, it would have been rude not to.

And of course we'd have all missed out on such a lovely picture if you hadn't, so Sir, you are a gent.
