Wainwright C Class
Totally open the box modelling this, but with products this exquisite, do we really care? The grime is via Lord & Butler's Dirty Boy weathering, no connection other than a satisfied customer, as they say, but the quality of the work really impresses, I think. Yes, it can be regarded as a basis for further improvement, but on the other hand it looks very acceptable as is, from the overall tone to the variation in treatments on the boiler.
And what a cracking model the C class is. Mine runs like a treat and it was a straightforward job to put in a decoder. At last we're getting the humble 0-6-0 classes that we've wanted for so long, and so far we've very little to complain about.
I often wonder about the essential differences between US and UK modelling, or rather the varying attractions of the two prototypes. If you want huge and impressive engines, marvellous paint schemes, wonderfully dramatic scenery, then there's no contest - it's got to be the US. At the other end of the scale, though, there's little in the US scene to compare with the workaday charm of a small Edwardian goods locomotive like the C class, perhaps pottering about a yard with a few private owner wagons. The attractions are different, but equally valid. Isn't it great to have a hobby that can encompass such variety?
