GWR 850 CLASS (11)
Been a bit short of time this week, I lost a couple of days through shopping and interviews concerning our adoption.
But managed to get the panniers closer to being ready for finishing. I decide to to do the filling on the curves before I add the white metal castings. I know it means a lot of cleaning prior to soldering but it is easy to sand without all the details in place. You will see the scrap in the smoke box to allow me to screw it down. Still a little to the underneath of them but I think the top is OK.
For some reason I got on with the cab detailing next. I normally leave this till last. There is a drawing in the instructions to show where the castings go, but no pipe work detail. so with reference to various photos of similar cabs this was added. There are a few parts in the kit that are not used for this loco, so the spares box received some additions, always useful. The backhead and cab floor are separate units to aid painting.
They were tested and adjusted so they would both fit into the cab in the same manner as they did before detailing. Some parts needed a bit of moving about due to the extra wide splashers in there. Can't be helped in finescale sometimes
With the bunker put in place you can see how cramped it is in there, I am glad I removed that 1.5mm from the bunker otherwise there would be no gap at the doorway.
I will be getting on with the body detailing next week. You never know I may even be able to squirt some paint at it.
