50/50...no need to phone a friend...

Evening all,

Small update as I managed to get all the fascia cut at work over a couple of evenings - did a dry assembly and needed to cut a few more bits again.

This morning I decided to take the plunge and apply PVA to the 3mm ply pieces with the aim of completing one Lack board today. 50% done and am happy so far - the cross bracing is my usual approach for my recent layouts using 50mm outriggers at the rear to strengthen the cantilever - now the PVA has dried it is all pretty rigid now.

You will note there is a small gap as in hindsight I should have added an extra couple of millimetres onto the Lack board overall dimensions but I can fill this so I did not let that halt progress. I also have cut back the rails on the end with the solid panel as I intend to get a bespoke cut 4mm mirror installed to try and see if this encourages some perspective of the shed - let’s see if this is successful or not.

Next weekend I hope to complete the other end so they can butt together and then it’s lighting next.

Here’s a few pics of today’s progress...

Crafty stuff Pete.

Only yesterday I dismantled a Lack shelf from a wall. Reading this now has got me thinking how neat a Lack-based wall-mounted layout would be, given the invisible mounting mechanism.

Thanks Mikkel - yes that was why all my layouts during my BCN phase were built off them...so easy to slide on and off the wall. This layout used them more as instant baseboards as we don’t have ability to hang them off wall in our current apartment - hence why I filled in and overclad the recess and holes yesterday with the fascias.

Go on...you know you want to...;)

Ah, I didn't realise that. Or rather I had forgotten - scary how someone can inspire you and then years later you end up thinking it was your own idea :-)

We have sold the house and are moving to an apartment without a modelling room, so I'm particularly interested in solutions like this at the moment.

;) Mutual inspiration Mikkel :good:

Yes downsizing can force you to rethink things - whilst most of my layouts are now micro layouts (as that is what interests me these days) this 7mm layout is not that big weighing in at 2200 x 260mm.

Hope the move goes well..

Hi Pete

See you are applying your usual fastidious approach toward the new scale. Beautiful craftsmanship and I’m really looking forward to seeing this develop. Great to see you modelling again. Are you going to treat us to some more of your inspirational drawings?

Scratch that last question as I’ve just seen the first installment. Great project.

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for your kind comments - its been an off and on project for a few years now but having recently struggled with my 2mmFS stuff its nice to have something completely different to focus on.

The one thing I need to crack is the uncoupling - who would have thought 7mm three links would be fiddly! I think that automated coupling and the slow running, sound chiped Dapol 08 will give it a little extra both as operator and viewer...need to think this through more.

Really enjoying the shear presence of the scale though - would love to see you work your magic with it :good:
