D14 breaks cover!

Well it’s only taken 3 years, but the procrastination is over and I’ve finally finished my D14 brake 3rd!  There are no real excuses as to why it’s taken so long, I could say other projects have taken precedence, or “life has got in the way”, but the reality is I just struggle with motivation when it comes to coaches!  I find it it easy to get enthusiastic about building a new locomotive and freight wagons are reasonably quick to build, but coaches just seem to take me forever.

I’m pleased it’s finally finished and it will add a bit of variety to the passenger services arriving at Sherton Abbas.  I’ve still got to paint the pair of 6 wheelers that I’ve been building, let’s hope it doesn’t take another three years!

Until next time …..

Best wishes

Very imposing!

It is quite a beast, it dwarfs my poor little 517!

This is a very nice model, very appealing to the eye.

If you are thinking about your next carriage, how about the double-end slip from CRT?

Thanks for that information, I’ve just had a look at the CRT website.  I had no idea that they did such a range of GWR coaches, that slip is particularly nice!  Once I’ve painted the pair of six wheelers I’m hoping to build a saloon coach from a different company along with a suitable horse box. I like the idea of an affluent family chartering a coach for a visit to Sherton Abbas and I’ve had enough of painting chocolate and cream for a while!

Fab! Having two different passenger rakes will add a lot of variety to the operating.

Beautiful Dave! A proper start to retirement 🙂

I like the roof weathering, just right. (cue Dave rolling his eyes after enduring endless pain to get lining and panels so exquisite).

Glad you like the roof weathering and think I’ve got it right🙂  Once I’d painted the roof a pale grey I sprinkled talc onto the surface to give it some texture, before lots of dilute washes of blacks and browns to give some tonal variation.

Dave,

Very nice. Does this mean the River class is inching closer to the workbench?

The River build is indeed getting closer! Once I’ve painted my pair of six wheel coaches it’s next on the list, we’ll it is unless I get distracted by the couple of wagon kits that are lurking in the background😁

A magnificent pair of vehicles. I shall look forward, though, to seeing the painted and lined 6-wheelers at the Fareham exhibition! (If I'm fit to go...)

I love to tease!

Actually, I think the Slater's E37 composite becomes a pressing need, to provide first and second class accommodation for the clerestory rake.

I can’t foresee a problem, there are still four days before the show, I’ll get the can of primer out😆

I agree that carriages, especially when panelled with clerestory roofs, are a serious modelling challenge.  And after the build, there is the painting, too!  Your D14 looks wonderful and stands up to photographic scrutiny with flying colours.  Excellent modelling!

One is on the “to do list” As I think you mentioned before my 6 wheel 1st and 2nd class composite is probably a little too elderly to mix with these “modern”clerestories!

I wanted to give this 5 stars but the software wouldn't let me - is this the result of a recent software 'upgrade'?

I’d love one! I’m sure you could knock me up one in a couple of weeks, judging by your fabulous 2mm version!

Thanks Mike! Yes “challenge” is exactly how I view them, I’m very happy to see it finished!

Even my little four wheelers take me ages so hats off to you for completing that one, it’s very long…!

Superb modelling though, it really does look the part.
