Suggest using two of the Comet chassis kits for the LMS Fowler 2-6-4T. Same wheelbase per unit and valve gear.

If you do use this route, will you make it double-motored?

Not the same wheelbase. The Garratt engine chassis were built to the traditional 8' x 8'6"

Mind you, if he wanted to try an RTR solution, then maybe the current Hornby Fowler 2-6-4T (China-made) chassis could be adapted. He'd need two, and they would need to be made to behave in unison.

Kitmaster Garratts tend to go for crazy prices!

thanks for the info guys again im still not sure yet which way this builds going to go was looking at it late last night but as yet ive not purchased any chassis bits so any information or tips from other people who have built one or have looked at one would be a help.

I have seen one built using a Bachmann n class chassis too!

although its more likely to be the fowler chassis that will get used but again im open to ideas im realy looking for an rtr solution as times against me on this as im getting rather busy with alot of full size modelling on our classic buses! see my you tube link in the 9f posts for further railway update & a load of bus stuff to.

anyway thanks again guys for all the comment it helps!

cheers ian.

That's a nice job someone's made of assembling the kit. What a lovely idea the motorising of it is - will it be required to haul commensurately heavy loads?

hi folks currently at the moment its just getting a build together and working out the easy route on this one so it will most likely be a single motor unit set up and a dummy in the other.

just a quick thanks to captain kernow in the recent past he sent me a coopy of the kitmaster garratt instructions! cheers!!

and another thanks today to Horsetan for the pdf on the fowler 2-6-4!

which has helped alot!

so now its time to sort out some funds! so going to have a sell off on ebay of some bits me thinks!

thanks again to everyone who`s commented it all helps

cheers ian.

more updates soon!

You can have one driven Fowler 2-6-4T chassis, and remove the motor from the other one to allow it to "freewheel"

Good. That will leave you with a spare motor as a backup for the driven unit, just in case that one expires with the effort of driving this monster!

I can see that you'll be putting loads of detail in to refine the mouldings, which will be fun as there's always something to do on a Garratt. Handrails and pipes are only the start!

yes the parts list for replacement items seems to be getting longer so im looking through bits from brassmasters & others just to see what will help bring it out and improve it.

oh well will go and find more pics now and see what other items we needs.

cheers ian:blink:
