2-Bil now finished

I bought this kit at an exhibition at the old BAe site in Hatfield in Autumn 1996 (my last year at University!). So sometimes kits from the great kit mountain do get built, rather than sitting forever in the cupboard or endlessly changing hands on Ebay.

Now at last it's finished!

The only thing I'm not 100% happy with is the fit of the roof - it's OK, but not brilliant. I'll work on this on subsequent 2-Bils, as I've been buying up a stock of the kits now that they are (temporarily?) available again. 3 more Bils and a couple more to turn in to 2-Hals should fllow of the next few years.

The 73/0 is nearly painted - just some touching up of the blue and the jumper cables to do, then it will be time for transfers.blogentry-1187-0-50311700-1294490515_thumb.jpg

Pete, the BIL is very nice... as is the 73. As an ex BAe Hatfield employee... it's nice to see something from there emerging is such a fine condition. Absolutely splendid!

A splendid model. DC electrics are becoming more popular as a prototype, and models like this can only help to encourage that. All the commode handles look the same, which is very tricky to get right, I suspect. Very fine indeed.

Excellent stuff Pete. You've really captured the 'heavy' look. If made up as per instructions they always looked 'undernourished' IMHO. Looking forward to seeing the 2-HAL! I've got one to do, but I'm going to have a go at using the Branchlines conversion kit on it's own by scratchbuilding around it. I feel loathed to use one of the Kirk kits. I might have a look at using one of my Kirk Maunsell kits as a basis now that they are redundant after the Hornby ones came out.

Hi Pete,

Excellent work, looks really good. As Hornby are not doing one this year, I am going to build one I got a little while ago from DC kits. I am going to finish this one in Blue. The ED looks good as well. Keep up the good work.

Cheers for now, Ian

Hi Pete,

I very much like what you have done with this model and that you have captured the character of them well. I too have a few of the Kirk kits secreted away for a rainy day and have plans to use them on my planned 1968/69 Portsmouth/ Fratton area layout. Looking forward to seeing some more of your work.
