Back to County Donegal

Killybegs

After a pleasant break over Christmas, when I was able to work on my rake of coaches for 'The Cornishman', it's now back to work on County Donegal Railway Projects. The 5.5mm/ft model of Killybegs station building is now finished and painted and is just awaiting chimneys (and the train shed) - I must get around to taking some new pics. Having knocked off a lot of 4mm wagon kits, I have now started on locos. I have 2 Class 5's and 2 Class 5A's to build which should keep me busy for a while but I started off with a wee model of Railcar No.4. This was pretty fiddly but is now complete bar the motor/rear bogie assembly which is on hold as I managed to break the gear wheel - replacement on order!

I have made a start on the first Class 5, starting with the body before moving on to the chassis which could be a bit of a b****r. Watch this space!

Hi John,

Railcar No 4 is looking rather good, whose kit is it and ditto for the Class 5?

Regards,

Robin

Hi Robin,

They are both Backwoods Miniatures. They produce a nice model but are hard work!

Apologies for any blank reply boxes but I have just got off the bike and my brain doesn't appear to be fully functioning yet! tongue.gif

regards,

John

That railcar is lovely, although I've always liked the 5 and 5a, so am really looking forward to seeing those progress.

Yes, I bought a Class 5 from Backwoods Miniatures back in 2000 in order to build "Drumboe", which I had seen a few times at Donegal Town before it finally went away to the RPSI.

One of the Adavoyle operating team - Dennis, I think it was - warned me that the clearances between chassis and body were very very tight, and there was a very good chance of the thing shorting out!

I have replaced the driving wheels with 16mm ones that have a true P4 profile tyre, as the ones supplied with the kit are relatively coarse.
