coombe junction - moorswater - LACK of (or) inspiration?...

Update

Had an opportunity to do some modelling last night...but couldn't face it...need more time to think things through...things like whether to use easitrac or pcb for the new sidings...

So, during a trip to Ikea this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see a new entry in the LACK shelf family (really, I have no connections to Ikea)

As you may recall, I have an abundance of the 1100 x 260mm LACK shelves scattered at home and a few 1900 x 260mm too, and they make great layout opportunities so you can imagine my surprise this morning to see a 300 x 260mm new edition.

I instantly thought that this would 1) be suitable for model railways and 2) be an interesting challenge.

So, one was duly purchased for the sum of €4.99 with a view to doing something with it.

Rolling stock showcase  TMD layout  T gauge layout

I attach a few photos - as usual they meet all my criteria: solid construction, lightweight, easy to remove/fix on the wall, well priced...

300 x 260mm - shame it doesn't fit in a boxfile...

with class 37 for scale...

It might just help that pesky mojo reboot...

T gauge, you know you want to :D

Maybe a simple circuit of track pretty much lost in a dense forest. Anyway, must get back to sorting out those T gauge bubble cars!

so you suffer from my problem sidetracked to yet another project.........

mojo gone we know that feeling soldering door handles to my 419 MLV killed mine stone dead ( for the moment) although I have a nice set of etches for a 207 which keep  me

Hmm...

Turntable offset to one side... roundhouse on the other... add some Cornish class 37s...

Guess where?

I'm sure there's a natural law that the rate of progress is inversely proportional to the number of projects on the go. But we all do it! In the forset of dean there was a short section between two tunnels that might just fit on that board as a small diorama.

Thanks all

Will - Don't get me started on T gauge...already have 3 other gauges going on in the household...but that HST is compelling...

Nick - Its more a case of I saw it and thought it must have a use...whatever that is....anymore blog updates due on your rolling stock?

Andy - St Blazey? 100%....and I still have my 'phone a friend' lifeline to use :P Nice idea that...and an even smaller layout than South Yard?

Don - Sounds interesting...but I think Pixie is tackling the FoD in 2mmFS at present...Your right about progress though...I will save it for a rainy day in Barcelona.

Newsflash I woke up this morning and I think I have a new plan on how to tackle the inset track at moorswater dries...consider this mini project 'shelved'...

Pete,

Forget the new Lack and get on with that new track!

Go for PCB; it will get covered so you don't need to use so many sleepers and, if you keep the solder joints neat, it will be easier to lay in the in-fill pieces.

The more projects you have going, the less you achieve. In three or four years time you suddenly realise you haven't actually completed anything! That's the stage I'm at, at the moment, so I'm concentrating on doing one thing at a time for a change.

David, hi

I like the rhyme :D Your absolutely right though...I had built up a nice momentum on CJ and I can't let that go (you didn't say what project you are concentrating on though?)

Yep....have decided on PCB this time, with plasticard/card infill to the sides. For between the tracks I am going to solder in a checkrail with some sort of filler infill...to be confirmed.

More progress next week...

Pete, Keeping the Mojo flowing seems to be easier if oyu have a couple of things on the go, but not too many! If one were retired, then one could allocate a day for a different scale and still maybe keep projects moving! I know I don't work like that.

Talking of Lacks, I still have a couple lying around which might suit that N gauge Bedford St John project which I "shelved" some time ago... :D

Glad your mojo is retunring anyway!

Mine went AWOL briefly last week after messing up the wiring on Little Midland, but a rest of a few days got me back in the saddle.

Regards,

Chris

I very nearly bought a T gauge set yesterday.

In my head I was thinking

'it won't take long, it's tiny: it can't take long'

Deep inside though I knew that it would.

Back on topic though: I would make the checkrail below rail height so that when you clean the rail you don't shine the check rail. You'll probably use chairplates to match the height of the existing easitrac (?) so just solder the check rail directly to the copperclad. You shouldn't really be able to realise the height difference when viewing because of the gap for the wheel.

Chris - Thanks - Things are happening...but from a distance - ran out of track components which is always annoying too  Keep those Lacks for that rainy day!

Rich - Tempting that T gauge...but the track is a little crude at present for it to be serious perhaps?

Good point on the checkrail although I wasn't planning to use chairs...all that effort and then it gets covered up....I am going to sit the outer surface just below rail height and have a cunning plan to clean the track....
