Ian; Can't wait until we see you tackle clouds.
- I am putting off.
Chris Nevard has some clever tricks for landscape
detail, blending into distance.Noel

I will gladly supply the Sheaves for this Project. Please get in contact.

I too made such clamps in "O"-level metalwork - Case Hardened.
-
If these are FUD from Shapeways, you are already on the margin of 0.3mm for the material.
Maybe with a light spray of paint, more detail will be seen.
Have you consulted them for comment? -
The scene will stand out more with a backscene.
Lovely job.

Very nice.

I made a route diode matrix for some passing sidings and still landed up with as many switches!
I like your board construction. -
Start at the slowest speed of you Drill Press, viz 620rpm.

In the years I spent at OSH in the late 50's, I wish I had spent time spotting locally.
- photography was expensive, especially on 5/- a week!

............ Maybe to make it all tangible it might work to use some case studies? Eg selecting some long-running threads here on RMweb where the different aspects you are after are displayed?
I'll go with that as a good starting point for views about the activity - there are also several other Forums
for model railway interests
Problem is, "Issues" have no resolution and you can land up with more dissent than agreement.
The Thesis would have to move the body of knowledge with some substantive results from first, a method
to conduct the inquiry.
Can I suggest a Soft Systems Methodology accumulated by Peter Checkland, Brian Wilson, and many others
over 30 years of research in large concerns, where it was necessary to first get a "Handle" on the problem
situation, before proceeding.
-
I don't see the connection between the primary task of modelling coasts, rivers and harbours, to scale down a problem situation for further investigation and research; and that of model railways as an issue based outlet for expression of the real world - only as valid as a landscape or portrait painting.
I think many would direct you to Pendon Museum where model railways are taken seriously and at the highest academic level; to ask about their mission statement, and whether even that measures up to the purposeful activity of, "Modelling coasts, rivers and harbours to scale down a problem situation for further investigation and research". as a primary task.
Reading, you appear to have a messy situation of issues. What tools do you have for knocking it all into something manageable?

"I have received a feedback about your complaint in the mean time, but I am afraid we can't arrange a reprint for this model. Quality of these supported parts were bad because of the design"
In my experience I am with Ian's observation. I too think putting both parts on a sprue rather limited Shapeways options, and that is what they are referring to as "Design".
The set-up charge is for a single STL, not for the number of pieces within it. They only prefer very small parts on a sprue.

Excellent final result: Congratulations!
Painting and finishing will really show them off.

Worked on the original 16mm layout constructed by Nailsea MRC in the early 1980's.
and I believe was given to Weston S/M Museum.
Considered constructing Clevedon Town itself in 4mm years ago, but got distracted by
other ventures.

Paul, what size are the wheels, Noel
-
Very nice.

Lovely job: Agreed the Blue is a bit light for Prussian Blue.
Whose paint did you use, and what was the given colour?
-
Knocking a round hole for the base, is always easier than a square one,
-
Ian,
A jig is already available with a suitable size drill or large size
piano wire.
While similar, a good method to make chain is to trap the end of
the wire in a drill press chuck with a suitable size drill and hand turn
the chuck with the wire building in along the length of the drill
- if necessary, supported between the claws of pliers.

You got problems in "O" with the duckets: I have the "OO" kit to build!

What came first from God - the track plan or the topography?
-
Nick,
Thank you.
I apologise for not being more specific, I took it as read that it was in the code,
and not the language.

Ian
This project is very interesting to scratch builders.
I see you share the stage with Bill Bedford at Shapeways.
Checking STL files with Netfabb is available free on Cloud(Beta) (http://cloud.netfabb.com/)
With the deposit method of the Reprap system, the current smallest extruder is 0.3mm -
I do not know tolerances that can be achieved with the sintering method from powders.
Some of the corrupt file problem may be this: There is a bug in Java (code) that does not deal correctly
with STL files. The fix is at - (http://www.kwartzlab...rmat-converter/).
Don't ask Kwartzlab questions on how to link it - with their own software, they don't want to know.

Ian,
Isn't 0.3 mm given as the minimum thickness !

Hattons replacing bad runners will ultimately degrade the offering.
- what a way to go!
Are all DJM models like this?
