  1. It is now Autumn - any news on the delivery?
  2. Still quiet re 24 Tyne Docks? Perhaps I will stick to steam, and give up on diesels 😪
  3. They are clips with tabs on for the 37s. Be careful though as it is possible to break the tabs off if not accurately lined up before pressing home. I don't know if anyone has tried removing the 'spring' clips but might be a little difficult? In my opinion, screws were a better option, as more control over the tightness.
  4. Another option for 9F Tyne Dock Sound
  5. Agreed @Solo The Rail Exclusive speakers are excellent. I try to get the bigger 'chunky' 55mm long in when possible, but the 40mm is still good. These are impressive with steam as well, and just about to start install one of those into Hornby 9F Tyne Dock + stay alive + DCC control of the firebox flicker. The EM1 or Accurathrash is good for the base range, and seems to work well when coupled with the higher frequency cube speaker in ACC diesels. Lowering the volume (which is still pretty loud) with the ACC diesels overcomes the occasional resonance.
  6. 37 or 55? I suspect a problem with 20KG weight limit for the deliveries!
  7. Just had a quick look 🙂 Just wondering what speakers are going to be in the 88DS? Even bigger sound?
  8. Good choice, to test the market, and to possibly get OO modellers adding an O gauge micro layout in the 'other' spare room. I'm sure the magazines will come up with suggestions. I did expect a smoke generator to be included. but perhaps lacking space. A very reasonable price for these 🙂
  9. A long time coming, but I decided to get the 'British Railways' A1 Tornado fitted with DCC / sound. A relatively old model with the 8 pin DCC socket in the boiler. This does however, leave a huge space in the tender to fit speakers. I also fitted a stay alive, especially as there are no tender pick-ups, and firebox flicker. The ESU V5 decoder needs a 3 wire stay alive. An ESU mini was used. Here is the kit: Two 8 ohm speaker connected in parallel (= 4 ohms). After testing via programmer and tester, this speaker combination from Roads and Rails sounded optimal. A two wire micro-connector was used for the speaker connection. This will enable the tender to be disconnected from the loco which can be useful, especially when weathering. Drilling a 3mm hole in the backhead for the firebox LED was fun, as it is die-cast. LED and resistor soldered and heat shrink added. Fitted to firebox. This was fixed using black tack. The AUX 1 connections were soldered to the base of the 8 pin socket / board. Stay alive connected to the decoder. There was plenty of room to slide the decoder and stay alive into the smoke box. Then, body back to the chassis with the speaker cable routed towards the tender. Attached as below. Finally, the stay alive needed to be set up via the CV settings: Sound and functions were good, but running needed to improved. The capacitor on the 8 pin board was disconnected (not required for DCC), and the load compensation CV56 was reduced from 255 to 100.
  10. I will probaly have a go at this speaker upgrade, instead of my usual ripping everything out. Might be an easier compromise although not sure what the modifications needed are as yet.
  11. Even better news. TMC were good enough to change pack 2 for pack 1, plus ordered a single numbered from pack 2 - no renumbering needed 🙂 Thanks Ben for hearing what we requested.
  12. Hello John Now that a Hornby 9F Tyne Dock is available, I'm planning to fit sound to two of them so that banking can be done with iron ore hoppers. Still waiting for the Tyne Dock 24's from Suttons to be announced! I notice you have a few sound models, and must be running in DCC. Are you running those as a consist or are they run separately with some sort of speed matching. I would be interested to know how you go about the double heading and banking operation. Dave
  13. What a great suggestion AND let's have a function button to play: Well the 97 (banana / sun) does keep disappearing!
  14. Have to agree about the pre-ordering being the safest route. However, it is all Accurascale's fault! They keep producing so many brilliant products! I try to stick with my originally designated era and region for the layout, but eventually (and usually too late), the boundary wall is broken, and I am then on a 'catch up game' with the locos and rolling stock. So my era 5 layout will now have time travelled DRS 37s with lots of nuclear waste stock, and a Caledonian 92 with silver bullets Learnt my lesson, so 66s and a Network Rail 31 on pre-order (rolling stock for those already purchased). So is that the limit of the overspill of those boundaries? Probably not, as I am sure Accurascale will come up with more irresistable offerings. Then again, does it really matter if I enjoy running those formations.
  15. Currently 11 for sale on that auction site (as eye watering prices). Pity buyers can't be contractually bound to keep and enjoy running them. I will wait for the next 97 offereing from ACC, rather than succumb to this profiteering.
  16. Guess I just need to be patient. Another Network Rail 97 will come later. For now I can prepare for this one: Which will go with this one: Still need to convert the DBSO to sit at the other end of the formation.
  17. That will teach me to go out for 30 minutes of grocery shopping. Missed again, but the notification did work 😟

Thanks for posting. First time I have heard the txs. Similar to other at speed. Perhaps not a high pitched as Digitrains. Is there much variation at start and slow speed, and wondering what the function list has available for a TXS decoder.
  19. Really good news as wanted to have a rake of 4 car carriers with a couple of MK 1 Maroons. I seem to recall up thread, that this was occasionally protypical. As I ordered pack 2, it looks as though I will have to renumber one, as the singles are same as pack 2!
  20. Sound and stay alive installed in A5 I have used the same technique as carried out by Mike Wild (HM 196), with the speaker installed inside the cab, and crew also added. Speaker from DCKits 25 X 15.5 X 11mm Midi bass Slim. Crew temporarily fixed with black tack until I go back into the cab for weathering. As the loco came with sound already installed (Wheeltappers sound files via Rails), it had an ESU LokSound 5 Micro sound decoder already installed. I tried the fit of an ESU (small) stay alive which would 'just' fit as shown further up thread, but on running there was always some small contact with the drive shaft which could be heard with the sound turned off. I gave up on that, and decided to use the DCC Concepts Zen 3-wire route. This kit has the small capacitor option and the interface chip is physically separated. When connecting to an ESU decoder a 3-wire harness is also needed. As I had already done the tricky soldering to the decoder, I connected the new kit to the existing wires. The interface chip will just fit under the PCB, when set an angle and with the original speaker removed. The small capacitor is located under the drive shaft. Note, it is tilted and set close to the gear train so the cable can reach the the interface chip. Cables tidied up Completed - sound is so much better, and the stay alive was tested with sound lasting for 6 seconds without power Some reference info Not forgetting the CV settings on the ESU decoder (for the stay alive)
  21. I see in HM197, that Mike Wild has managed to get an EM1 speaker into the latest Heljan 45. Quite a bit of cutting needed, but looking forward to the sound demo when it comes out. I did a speaker fit using a Rail Exclusive 'Boom Box', = 40 X 20 X 10mm. Sounds excellent, and no cutting needed. The speaker has to be positioned / cantilevered to miss the bottom of an exhaust port (on the inside of the roof) , and this speaker will fit between the body / chassis fixing lugs. Also fit enough black tack under speaker at the outboard end to lift it clear of the gear assembly. Sound by DCKits
  22. Hi @Porcy Mane I have had a look at the Yoochoos web site, but only see Standard and Crosti 9F but no Tyne Dock?

Yes, I will be interested to hear the Hornby TXS project when someone uploads a recording. For now, there are two additional players:
