  1. Having read the latest mega news, I was surprised by the 'airfreight'
  2. Well, 'Evening Star' ordered, and I have a set of IIA Biomass Hoppers on their way to replicate: I also have a rake of GBRf HYA and IIA Bogie Hoppers, and would like to keep to the period when the hoppers were primarily used for coal rather than the aggregate, which saw them with modified liveries or mixed with cut downs. I have found this video: Looks perfect for 66763 but does not have the named 'Severn Vally Railway'. I'm not sure exactly when the video was recorded, but before the naming in 2016? Or perhaps the named 66763 was still hauling this traffic? Any information would be appreciated, or I might have to remove the name. Might need to order 66763 soon!
  3. Thanks Fran Whoops! I missed the comment about the hold up at customs. I fully understand getting the vast numbers distributed is one heck of a logistical task. No problem to wait a little longer, it will be well worthwhile. Unfortunately some retailers come out with 'out of stock' or 'unavailable' which makes one wonder if your order has gone down a 'black hole'. I blame RMWeb to some extent as we get to see very tasty locos being unboxed or placed on layouts 🙂 @Andy Y Couldn't manage without RMWeb though!
  4. Sadly I have already paid for two DRS/6s with a retailer, so no chance to change supply. It would be nice if the retailer could give an update on when they are going to be delivered. Lesson learnt ........ get in early with Accurascale directly in future. It has cost me a lot more than the two DRS/6s, as this led me down the path of purchasing a whole load of nuclear handling rolling stock from guess who? Yes, Accurascale. Can't wait to get them double heading flask and LLW formations.
  5. I must have been waaaaay down the list. No email for NR97. Got back from walk over the Moors to find many gone. However ....... healthier body and healthier wallet 🙂

    Hornby Turbomotive

I'm also thinking of cancelling. I have asked my retailer and Hornby how the sound files will be done. Is there a sound demo of the Hornby offering out there? @Arthur had posted this in 2017 here's a preserved Swedish steam turbine locomotive, filmed here; The turbine casing ahead of the smoke box suggests an arrangement not unlike the LMS turbomotive.
  7. Fran Just about to order, then checked here and see there are different designs of clips. I assumed all of the large Accurathrash speakers are the same, but the fit onto the board must be different in each model. I have a Class 92 DCC ready on the way to me. I have the sound decoder already. Will I need clips and a speaker for that model as well? Just checked decoder fitting instructions on your web site and it looks as though a speaker is already installed on DCC ready? Also, can I assume the clips will come with the fixing screws? Cheers
  8. It least AS do comment. And they take on-board feedback given on RMWeb threads, albeit some are valid comments and some are not. As far as a spell checker is concerned, that does not always work if the wrong spelling is also a valid word! For example, either a pair of speakers or fighting speakers:
  9. This came to mind (for some reason) 🙂 I'm hoping to get an email from ACC in case there are some spare!!
  10. Any news on the clips. Can't find them on the web site.
  11. Ditto - two locos will be coming via TMC. Something to haul that ACC nuke stuff 🙂
  12. Are the speakers going to fighting each other?
  13. And the weathering bring out the depth of detail very well. Nice one @stratford 47
  14. Ditto re 97301. I guess there will be a rather long queue. Perhaps it will get another production run, or ano Network Rail Liveried 37.
  15. Hi Tony, Thanks for the kind comment. I guess I need to learn how to load a video to U-tube, and then link to RMWeb - if that is how it is done. I see you are in Australia, and Scale Sound Systems (who I had not heard of), are based in the USA. Cheers Dave
  16. I did not know anything about the 'crabbing' until just reading through this thread. I have only recently commissioned a pair of V2s, and had not noticed the crabbing. But on one V2 I had to strip down and correct the quartering on two pairs of wheels as binding (one per rev'), was the issue. As supplied, there is a pair of washers only on the front drivers. I have added another pair of washers onto the centre drivers, as too much side-play. I noticed the gearing almost out of mesh with the excessive side-play of the driven wheels. I have added sound - described on separate thread:
  17. This project is intended to improve the 'standard' sound available with the new (ish) Bachmann V2. The DCC ready V2 has a prefitted speaker and decoder socket, located between motor and firebox. The modification is virtually identical to that done by Mike Wild for the Hornby magazine, however I have managed to use an even larger speaker in the tender by some cutting and carving of the coal space. Also included is a 2 wire plug / socket between tender and loco, as I prefer to be able to uncouple completely especially for weathering, a new Locoman Sounds decoder, and a stay alive. Here is a picture of the components used: First, the tender. A sharp scalpel is used to cut out a good portion of the coal space. The supplied coal load will fit over the modified space, however longer term a false floor and real coal will be added. Speaker and plug / cable added. Speaker fitted using black tack. Locomotive prefitted speaker removed, and new cable / plug soldered to pads on rear of PC board. The tricky soldering of stay alive connection. Wiring to ZVS pad + blue, and GND (ground) black on the decoder. Ready to close up. A massive difference. Well-rounded sound, and certainly worthwhile if a sound decoder is to be added. The stay alive may not be so important as there are pick-ups on all loco and tender wheels. The firebox flicker is rather poor as it relies on reflections, and the opening / doors make the visibility even more difficult. A future modification? Perhaps some CV brightness changes will be possible? The sound project was installed on two V2s, but one of them took significantly longer to achieve as once per rev' binding was present. Lesson learnt ....... check with DC before modification in case it needs to be sent back. Eventually found two of the driving wheels were incorrectly quartered. I was also surprised to see one gear (on centre driving wheels), nearly running off the teeth of the gear above it. This would cause wear longer term, so I added a couple of fibre washers to restrict the side-play on the centre wheels. I do not have tight radius curves so not an issue.
  18. About £47 differential at RRP. A TXS is a cheaper decoder as fewer sound files and functionality compared with ESU for example. But then if a decoder was to be installed for DCC capability, it might as well be with a sound project as well. If another sound decoder supplier is to formulate a better sound project and explain how it is done (without a prototype to record), then that might be a better option.
  19. An update from Hornby on the Turbomotive, but still nothong on how the sound project has been developed, and no chance to hear the project in advance (unless I have missed something). https://uk.Hornby.com/community/blog-and-news/engine-shed/turbomotive-stanier-success?xnpe_tifc=bf4N4Ib8b.bDxIhu4kYp49psafeWaeiWhFW_bMhst9ELhdUZ4DnjnkPlRf8lhMPchMncbdiArFYXbfbXxkoDhfHdxF1DxdbT&utm_source=bloomreach&utm_campaign=Hornby - Engine Shed - week21 23/24&utm_medium=email
  20. This is the one I believe: It can be viewed on this site https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/20886113/download-view-the-prodigy-express-dcc01-gaugemastercom
  21. That's useful to know. I did wonder if the individual sound slot volume settings were different (factory fitted v separately supplied decoder). It might be worth checking and making a comparison when first installed. I seem to remember something about 'sound clipping' of the amplifier if the individual sound slot volume settings are too high, then the master volume CV setting is limited.
  22. Well spotted. It should be there.
