  1. Hi all. I am currently upgrading my Oxford models GWR station which is based on Moreton-in-Marsh. For those that are aware of this model, while good, I have felt it has shortcomings. The paint job is so-so, and it depicts a station in the BR era. I wanted one for a 30s/40s layout, so I set out to make some changes to mine. It will be a fictitious station, so I am borrowing aspects of the actual Moreton, while adding some of my own design. I have added slate roofing and will further refine it. I need to still add chimneys. I have printed off some. For the station itself, I used the decorative brick from Moreton and hand painted it on to mine (red), as well as making other painted items better and smoother. I have added a lot of weathering as well to add character and help with the poor paint job, as well as adding posters here and there. Slowly looking better I feel.
  2. Yep...printed some off. Kind of doing things backwards I guess, doing the roof then the chimneys, but I have a plan.
  3. Hi all. I am upgrading my Oxford station and started with adding some semi-prototypical additions painting by hand. I am adding slate to the roof, but my question is in regards to the canopy top, which I feel looks horrid. What color would this have been? Is the color accurate (albeit poorly painted)?
  4. Could I get some opinions please? I plan on modelling Late 30s though WWII to around 1948ish. Which set would give me the most coverage for that period? I know some were painted brown during WWII. Would the shirtbuttons have possibly made it through without repaint? Just looking for something prototypical during that date range. Thanks!
  5. Long shot here. Does anyone have any STLs for GWR station chimneys? Either free or for sale, I don't care. Making my station more period appropriate and I can't find any kits or off the shelf chimneys anywhere. Many thanks.
  6. Oh, I get that. And I have spent hundreds on good files for various Star Wars helmets and weaponry. And it sucks to see some of their work recast and resold without attribution. They still do it though. For myself it comes down to time. I have 16 month old twins. If I could take the time (and presumed money) to learn CAD I would, but I can't, which is why I am willing to pay others for their hard work. Plus my wife would just roll her eyes at yet another hobby. FWIW, this was a file I purchased from an online vendor within the SW community. He sells it for $20 USD. Granted, an unscrupulous individual could recast it, sell it as their own, etc. However, within our community we know whose work is whose and will quickly shut that stuff down. Perhaps that is what the MR community needs? Edit: Also, I get Bill's perspective. I did not see he runs a business. Makes much more business sense to not sell a file for $20 that can be replicated by the purchaser dozens of times when you can sell the model dozens of times for $20.
  7. Wow... that's, well... disappointing to say the least. Coming over from Star Wars cosplay and the 501st where people create files and sell them on etsy, its just bizarre to see nothing for sale at all file-wise. So here is the question then? What's the point? You (and I don't mean you specifically) create a file for yourself, only yourself. You only can admire it, only benefits you, doesn't help to grow the hobby or assist others. You could put it on Etsy or some other online seller where individuals can pay a fee for it. You benefit, the individual benefits. If China gets it... what is the big deal. You made the decision not to sell it in the first place and decided not to make money off it it. I don't know... perhaps I am just looking through a lens of altruism. I don't begrudge anyone who chooses not to give up there work, FYI. But as a capitalist... I mean, I take photos. I sell photos. My astrophotography takes me hours upon hours of work. I can either keep the images for only myself to enjoy... post them for others to view (which I do) and run the risk of resale or being used without pay, or I can put them up for sale which I also do. Either way, it doesn't bother me because it gets people into the hobby. Either way, thanks for the answer and I'm sorry to hear that no one sells their files. It would be a huge boon for the hobby and a way to side-step China...
  8. Hi everyone. Haven't posted here in a while. I'm not new new. I have been printing on an FDM for well over a years. Just a few months ago I got a Mars Elegoo 2 and I love resin. Obviously that got me thinking about printing models. Living in the US, and with the rising price of models, I wanted to look into printing OO items. I've come here, looked around and am overwhelmed. Really, I just need file resources. So where do you all go for the best files to print? Wagons, etc... Free or not free, doesn't matter. I haven't had luck finding anything. I really feel this is the best way to build a fleet of wagons quickly and cost effectively. Thanks for your help!
  9. If only it were that easy. I've got 5 month old twins. I'm probably crazy even trying to build a small layout
  10. Ok... so I have been 3D printing since January, bot not model RW items. I am now seeing the possibilities. Is there an online source of N gauge files? For instance, I need platforms. Thingiverse is limited in what they have, but I figured you all here might know? Platforms, water columns, fences... basically anything I can print I will. I live in the states so items arent readily available to me.
  11. It’s perfect! Fits two full coaches. Track sits in snug and doesn’t even need glue. It’s a perfect fit! Thank you soooo much.
  12. Thank you soooo much. I really appreciate it!
  13. 275mm would fit nicely on my printer. Using Peco code 55 which I believe is about 16 mm wide sleeper edge to edge.
  14. That’s exactly what I need and I have ZERO design skills. Would you be willing to share this file?
  15. Does anyone have or know where I can get a print file for an N gauge cassette. Doing a small terminus layout and in lieu of a fiddle yard I’m going the cassette route. Thanks!
  16. Just took a look and Tidworth makes for a really neat basis for a layout. I think I could definitely adjust the size to make it smaller by omitting some elements. Definitely has the military aspect I'm looking for as well. Thanks to you both for pointing me in this direction. Though Lambourn is a nice layout, its more typical GWR terminus. This gives me what I'm looking for pretty much.
  17. Wow... didn't realize this thread had grown this far. Should have kept watching. Anyhow... to add to my OP... I plan on building a GWR station based on Lambourn Station. Its a farily small and compact station, which fits my needs. I'm going to base it during WWII and plan on running both GWR and SR. WWII gives me the "anything goes" flexibility. I'll use the claim that its a possible destination for troops on leave from the war with a small base nearby. Anyhow, this thread was a good read. Thanks to all those who contributed over the past 1.5 years
  18. I went ahead and picked up birdcage stock, seemed to be a good fit.
  19. More to the West. Hornby seems to have made ex LSW compartment coaches... 3rd class, etc. I imagine these might be a fit.
  20. I’m an idiot. OO. I had planned on a wartime layout and just post wartime.
  21. Secondary/Branch... but If I have to sacrifice and go mainline due to lack of options, I would
  22. Hi all. I am trying to make some 2-3 coach long Southern Railway trains using RTR stock that is already out, but not having much luck figuring out which coaches I would (or should) need. Era 3, 30s and 40s. Any assistance would be very helpful and much appreciated.
  23. And they're done dirt cheap. Sorry... couldn't help myself. That song popped in to my head when i saw the title. Well done. They look great.
  24. One of the things I need to grasp is that sometime less is more... I have grand desires... but I really need to adapt to the space I have. I think I can do it though with a track design similar to Lambourn or Bodmin though...
  25. Wow.... i really wish you didn't post this. With falling O prices... the size of your layout has made a compelling reason to jump to O. It's a beaut! Well done.
