  1. Sorry to hear this , I wonder why you weren’t at Manchester. Another blow to future exhibitions.
  2. Thanks for doing the video Tony . I’ll have to remember the page number to keep watching it.
  3. I have used this model for a few years now , the company are brilliant to deal with and carry a good range of spares.
  4. Love the photo with the level crossing keeper . No problems with the photos on my iPad, strange how it’s affecting different devices.
  5. I find it sad now when going into Manchester and looking across at the old red bank sidings. But other people might be happy because it now looks like a forest.
  6. Thank you , I think they are right , perhaps it’s the angle of the photo. The paint I use is good old Phoenix / Precision Then again looking at it , your right . I do have one job left to do that’s adding the Doncaster works plate , I’ll move them forward to match the two other A3s I have which have them . I picked 60074 because it was never fitted with them , just for the different variation .
  7. Afternoon All Just thought I would show the two DJH A3s that I have now completed. It has been a pleasure building these kits , and for me the two locos went together quiet quick ( about three months ) The Brit and WD were bought off eBay , they required a fair bit of work but I’m well pleased with the results . Highlight of my train spotting days , Doncaster station in 62/63 plenty of steam about. But for me as a ten year old , it was the roar of a Deltic on the though road that captivated me
  8. I can only echo what has already been said , I have been going since the days when I think it was held in the technical college , always been a top exhibition and since the Manchester show moved out of the CIS I think without doubt Wigan has been the best in the north of England. I know people are worried about the coming recession but being in my seventies I think I’ve seen one basically every ten years or so , was downsizing considered ? So thank you for all the very happy memories I have from over the years .
  9. Great set of photos from Selby , you normally only see shots of locos coming off the swing bridge . Thanks for sharing them with us , like you do on a daily basis.
  10. Since I first discovered high level gearbox’s I now have six locos running with them , and the two A3s I’m building now have them fitted , I don’t rush making them I take 30/40 minutes to assemble one into a free running gearbox , the critical point is to make sure the folds are 90 degrees, this is the part for me that takes the longest , before the folding I make sure the shafts are a sliding fit and once it’s correctly folded the shafts line up perfectly. I limit the amount of movement when it’s fitted into the loco and what I really like is they are so quiet when running , with the latest Chinese motors I have a motor and gearbox for under twenty pounds.
  11. Afternoon All All this talking about soldering I thought I would share my latest offering , it’s a djh A3 chassis , one of two that I’m currently building , in the photo you can see I use a fume extractor, didn’t cost a lot , also has I’ve said before I use the ready available yellow tube flux , yes it does require cleaning afterwards , I’ve found a quick brush with some cellulose thinners does a good job . Better late than never but over the last few years I’ve invested in , a 75W temperature control unit , supplied by Circuit Specialists (excellent after service ) the extraction fan and most recently the Proxxon drill (after years of putting up with an underpowered mini drill ) I know these items come with a cost , but I wish I’d invested in these tools a lot earlier in my modelling days . If you look at the chassis can I point out the motor , a few months ago on the RM Iooking for a new source of flat can motors I came across the Mabuchi range , so I order three off eBay from China , I’ve used these in a B1 , Jubilee and a Britannia and found them excellent , I bought another ten at a grand cost of £18 , yes £1.80 each including postage , the motor was produced for car CD players , it’s RPM is 17500 , search on eBay ref FF -050SK-11170 shaft is 1.5mm
  12. Can I just thank everybody that’s been involved in getting this years exhibition on , I have really enjoyed my visit today , lots of top layouts to enjoy in all shapes and form, Newchapel Junction O gauge layout had me standing by the circle of track , just loved the sight and sound of the locos going round and round , so again thank you to all the organisers , layout operators and traders for making it all happen.
  13. Is there any additional traders been added to the original list ?
  14. Brilliant York photos Dave , one of my favourite trainspotting destinations. Use to love being at one end of the station and know a Deltic was coming up behind you .
  15. When I left school in 1967 , I earned £3 -25 a week as an apprentice engineer , and thought I was well off as my spends went from 5 shillings to 15 😀 , it was one and sixpence to get into the Stretford End at Old Trafford.
  16. Hi Tony Quick update , I’ve found on brassmasters website the drawings for the modified tender , thanks for going to the trouble of showing us your A3 photos , hopefully I’ll be able to show you mine in a few months , I’m not as quick as yourself. Dennis
  17. Thanks Tony , the real visual appearance with the bulkhead in the kit is the white metal casting of the semi circle cut out for the brake handle , would I be correct basically to copy the bulkhead from the high sided tender ? It’s a disappointment to read the DJH instructions where they proudly claim to have covered the alternative parts for the different versions of the loco , and then add they hadn’t done this for the tender . Apart from that the two tenders are built and I’m looking forward to building the locos , 60106 with deflectors and 60074 without. Will you be at Wigan this October ? If so be good to have a chat with you. Dennis
  18. Good morning Tony I’m wondering , hoping that yourself or others can help me out , after finishing my DJH Britannia I have at long last started my two DJH A3s , these are both with the GNR coal-railed tenders , as you know the kit comes with alternative parts for the body , but not for the tender , again as you will know the tender bulkheads were modified to suit the change over to L/H drive , so far the only photo I can find is of 60041 on Cowlairs works after the removal of the boiler and cylinders , it’s not the clearest of photos to try and make a new bulkhead from . Did you modify yours Tony or leave it ? Dennis
  19. Love these photos of Y&D at Heap Bridge , I lived just up the road , but missed this action .
  20. I’ve soldered kits , bits and bobs for many years , and never , repeat never ended up with fingers like yours Tony !
  21. All this talk about how good this class of loco was against that class , the real fact is that every class was wiped out within eight short years , no matter how good , bad or indifferent
  22. My thoughts exactly , received my Nimbus last Thursday, same as others the two front steps on one side were in the packaging , not going to replace them till I have the top off to fit the loco crew when they arrive. I’m plan old dc and she runs like a dream though my hand built track using my modelex controller. Reading all these post I remember back in the day my brother letting me “run in “ his latest Hornby dublo Deltic , I ran it round an oval of track on the carpet thinking it was the bees knees , compared to this beautiful model well , there isn’t any comparison in any shape or form.
  23. Good morning Tony I have just returned to the forum having paid to remove the advertising that was spoiling the website for me , your Britannia build just happens to coincide with my current project , it started out as a loco I was selling for a friend on eBay and when the sale fell though (£120 before deductions) I decided to buy it , it had very little of the pipe work so I thought that a quick bit of detailing and I would have a good model , but that wasn’t the case and a full re -motor /gearbox was required , then I noticed that the cab wasn’t square , and so it goes on ! Can I recommend the David Heys collection website , there’s a brilliant section on Britannia’s which covers every one of the class , you soon realise that they were far from “ standard “ my finished loco is going to be 70051 which I learned had the crest on the tender facing the wrong way round in the period I’m modelling. The other loco 70035 dates back to 1985 so I’m adding a little more to it whilst in the Britannia mind frame. Dennis
  24. So glad that you came up with a cheaper service that removed the adds , I had stopped spending a lot of time on here ( I did get more modelling done ) , anyway after the initial hiccups , I followed instructions on this page , I now enjoy add free viewing , except when I go on Accurascale site to see the latest on the Deltic .
  25. My son called round on Monday , he suggested Railtec transfers , I’ve never taken any notice of them before, but on being shown the range available, and them having what I required I placed an order . Tuesday morning a personal confirmation email. Arrived today . Now that’s what I call service .
