  1. Only problem - those were only ever pulled by LNER or LMR push-pull fitted locos, never by ex Met. locos in operation. The Met E class locos did haul the pre-conversion Ashbury's prior to the introduction of the Dreadnoughts, and were then basically displaced by the larger classes (we need an H class - one of the most handsome steam locos ever !). They did sometimes substitute for the larger locos during WW2 hauling Dreadnought coached passenger trains north of Ricky.
  2. I am informed that the colour used when Olton Hall was resprayed for the first film was Craftmaster Burrell Crimson Lake, so basically resprayed as a Traction Engine!
  3. I , for various reasons, have not been in a position to purchase one until now, but it looks like all the GCR-liveried ones are sold out. I contacted SONIC and they have replied there are no plans to do another run.
  4. How about the Maunsell SECR N class or K class? From this the Metropolitan K class (LNER L2) tanks could be derived. <btw> none of these would be on my wishlist as they are wrong period and region.
  5. How about the Metropolitan G class / LNER M2 class 0-6-4T locos or the better-looking, but more complex, Metropolitan H class / LNER H2 class 4-4-4T that was based on the G class loco.
  6. The Met E class was a passenger loco so really needs Ashbury or Dreadnought carriages (perhaps with a Pullman) or milk wagon. The 5 plank wagon though really needs an F class loco which is very close to the E class (basically a different chassis and a larger coal bunker) - just saying 😃😉
  7. Slightly late to this discussion, but a couple of years ago was talking to a medical equipment technician who was developing elctronic equipment including motor-driven apparatus and he told me that he used silicone-based lubricant. When I asked where to buy it he told me "Boots - it's their own brand lubricant - cheaper than that made by Durex"
  8. with the coming of the Met E class, it would be quite simple to produce a Met F class. Then on to the G, H (yes please!) and K class, which in itseld opens a pandora's box of all sorts of locos.
  9. Never trust any retailer who uses bubblewrap - did you not watch the Doctor Who Kerblam! episode?😃
  10. Have ordered the GC version, but forgot I don't have any track to run it on, as I model in P4 - doh!
  11. How about supplying wagons unpainted? That way people who want specific liveries can do their own thing without having to obliterate, what I am sure will be, excellent Rapido applied paintwork.
  12. Dreadnought stock bodies are also available as 3D printed items from Rue d'Etropol. Dreadnoughts were hauled by the E class, as Met. locos, from1910 when they were introduced until 1920, when the E class locos were all but replaced by the larger locos. However during WW2 when there were loco shortages LT used E class hauling Dreadnoughts on steam services north of Ricky. The E class never hauled the Chesham Ashbury stock (in service), but did haul Jubilee stock and the Ashbury stock as originally built. The only Jubilee stock kits I know of is sold by Roxey Mouldings. Ashbury (original) stock bodies are part of the Rue d'E 3D range sold via Shapeways. The Chesham set is available as a set of brass kits from London Road. I understand that Hattons are going to release their generic Genesis coaches in Met. livery so could be used. In an earlier post someone asked if the E class was used on the Brill branch. I can confirm that at least one was on the Brill branch when they dismantled it - my father's first job as a trainee fireman when he started working for LT.
  13. To finish off the Metropolitan coaching stock how about the Directors coach, and the Pullman coaches? (Drawings in the Jim Snowdon book)
  14. Talk about serendipidy. This worked on smile.amazon, but not on amazon (smile is the arm of amazon that gives away to named charities). I just searched for motor board, and it bought up a DIYMore board, that when I looked at the image is the DEEK ROBOT board. So have ordered it. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LVXM0JS?psc=1&smid=A2OYQMAUQB5NOO&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp
  15. Was introduced to dcc++ex when I was last in the US. It really interested me as I can't justify the cost of most of the commercial products. I have purchased an Elegoo Mega 2560 and a Makerfabs ESP8266 WiFi Shield, but am having trouble getting hold of a suitable motor shield. There appears to be a shortage of the "recommended" boards : The Arduino one appears to be in short supply, and the Deek Robot one seems to be unobtainable over her in the UK. Has anyone tried any alternatives that can be recommended?
  16. Was at Quainton, and in front of me was a family with a couple of young boys. They were looking at Met 1, and one of the boys said "can i get one of these for my layout?". That got me thinking - attracting new modellers means producing models of railway items they can identify with. As well as Met 1, what other rescued steam loco types are there that haven't had models produced by the mainstream industry?
  17. I am treasurer for a small sports club, and we use TSB Club, Charity and Trust account. Generally everything is done using transfers, both using a PC (web based) and phone app. We have a cheque book and paying-in book, but when we need to pay cash in we do it at the local post office.
  18. I had forgotten about Scalelink vehicles and there are a couple there that might do (although a bit early as they are pre-WW1). With regard to Oxford, most of the 1920s era vehicles (e.g. Austin 7) are from the later years in that decade. Having said that there is a coach that almost matches one in a photo I have, but like many of their items it is marked out of stock!
  19. I was expecting horse drawn vehicles to predominate, but I have several photos of the area I am modelling taken in the period 1919 - 21, and was suprised at the number of cars (and motorcycles), even though it is primarily a semi-rural area.
  20. I am building a 4mm (P4) layout set in 1920/21, but now need to find suitable road vehicles. I have found several tractors, steam powered vehicles and ex-WW1 military lorries, but am having difficulty finding other suitable road vehicles. Can anyone let me know of suitable models? Many thanks
  21. Thanks Guys. With regards to John New's post - I have produced etched "kits" before, but now having access to an industrial 3D printer, and wanting to produce up to 20 of each wagon/coach, thought I'd try this "new technology". Also thinking of time, as now in my 70s!
  22. Have been given several scale 2D plans of stock of a minor railway. which I hope to start modelling. All plans show both sides and ends, plus undercarriage and roof plans. I have managed to scan them and have them saved in various formats. Question is: how do I go from here to stitch the various drawings together and make them suitable for 3D printing? Are there any tutorials which might help? I have tried doing online searches, but have not found anything that really helps. As you might gather I know absolutely nothing about the subject, but have been a database programmer for years, so know my way round PCs. Many thanks.
  23. White heat was a phrase that could well be applied to GT3 - they would have felt the heat as it went past!
  24. Only just come across this topic - sorry! My intertest is the Met/GC, with particular interest in the post WW1 period, and a few years ago was shown some photos of the Great Missenden Goods Yard (not sure of date, but pre-grouping, and probably post WW1, as there was a G class loco in background of one photo). There were several (at least 8) horse boxes, apparently all arrived for the local hunt. As well as Met ones there were also GW, and what looked like LSWR ones that could be identified, and (I think) GCR and MR ones. The same photos also showed at least one MR goods wagon in the yard, and an unidentified cattle wagon (definitely not Met.) . Unfortunately the lady who showed me the pictures died and I believe the family destroyed them, as rubbish, when they did the house clearance.
