  1. I feel I could walk up and knock on the door...
  2. You won't find it like that when you fit the marathons! 🙃
  3. Perhaps you should get someone to measure it for you; crotch bone to floor. Preferably someone you know well! My guess is you'll find it's more than 32".
  4. It's worth pointing out that frame size is not a direct measure of the seat tube length, due to the fact that the top tube can slope by different amounts on different bikes, but is usually measured from a 'virtual' horizontal top tube to the BB. As Nearholmer pointed out though, different manufacturers use different measuring methods... it's a bit of a minefield. Also, a 30" inside leg for someone 6' seems rather short to me. In this context, inside leg is all the way to the floor, not your trouser inseam!
  5. One of the relays appears to have suffered a fatal burn-out!
  6. Agreed, green and scenic. Though slippery when wet! (Lots of chalk).
  7. Yes, from Leasey Bridge Lane to Wheathamstead, due to a couple of miles of ex-railway land now being in private hands. The sort of route you only do once! It does get a bit better from Leagrave...
  8. In fact the route between Harpenden and Luton is tarmac the whole way, 5 or 6 miles in total. Not as much as I should have liked, due to one reason or another. Was hoping to go through the 1k mark for the year so far before the end of March, but I'm still short by 21 miles! Nothing this week, but did manage 350 miles over the preceding 2 weeks.
  9. There are, fortunately, alternatives in the area, Jordan's Mill not least among them. There's also Moggerhanger Park, and The Pallet Cafe at Thorncote Green, all not far away. There's also the Vintage Tea Rooms at Southill, and, a bit further afield, The Barn at Cardington... will any of those do?
  10. Indeed. They tried it some time before the pandemic, and then relented, but this time it's permanent. The cafe is spacious and was never crammed.
  11. It was actually Southill Station, though it's over 2 miles from Southill, and Old Warden is nearer. The aerodrome is the home of the Shuttleworth collection, which has a cafe that was well-used by walkers and cyclists, but has recently been closed to all except paying visitors to the museum, grrr... Ireland was so named because it was where a navvie camp was set up when the railway was being built.
  12. Continuing the railway theme... Took the Ribble out for the first time this year... ...and passed a certain local point of interest... The hedge just to the left of the station building has been shaped to resemble a loco at the platform, but I couldn't get a better view as I was already encroaching on private property and didn't want to push my luck... The last image could be a little misleading!
  13. Definitely not British Isles! Somewhere in France...
  14. Some wonderfully sculptural trees in that view.
  15. I believe it's known as a choke. It blocks higher frequency AC current. Not sure what it's purpose would be in this context though.
  16. Worth popping in if you get the chance too.
  17. By coincidence I did one of my favourite rides today, down to a Hertfordshire cycling hub, Spokes Cycles CC, run by an ex-pro team mechanic. They do high-end second-hand and classic bikes, as well as custom builds... and a mean sourdough cheese toastie! https://www.spokecycles.cc/
  18. You also need to be aware that unless your bike is already fitted with "tubeless ready" rims then they will need replacing...
  19. The pub is now community-owned, apparently, and managed by a brother and sister partnership, and she is previous a Bake-Off winner... in hindsight we should have gone there today really. Another time...
  20. Which are you referring to? The Firs certainly qualifies as old! And that's just the staff! It's certainly good value tho'...
  21. A least it was a good day for it...
  22. No, The Firs Cafe and Guesthouse, in the centre of the village. Actually we might go to The Green Man at Eversholt, but I'm not sure whether they can take us or not. Waiting on a reply from them...
