  1. There will be purchasers !
  2. All For those of you who have the requisite skills I think you would be surprised how many fellow enthusiasts would take up an offer to build a kit alongside you and have the facility to ask questions, not available watching a DVD, at a reasonable day rate. I for one would pay the equivalent of my day rate ( not cheap ) and travel far to the Northern Wastelands of this fine island to sit opposite a Tony Wright or equivalent and watch a build and return for further instructions on additions and weathering over additional weeks. Apologies for going off subject, by the way the standard of builds in this thread is exceptional please keep this going, mind you at 800 plus pages it will not stop easily, for which I for one will be grateful. Regards Peter
  3. That is beautiful handy work Tony. Regards Peter
  4. Hi Tony That is very nice indeed. Regards Peter
  5. All this might be the wrong section but I find the calendar notification date format of month date year odd since I am based in the UK not in another part of the world. It could be I have my settings wrong for the site. A very minor quibble I know but if I can correct for my own device I would appreciate it. Regards Peter.
  6. Mine has the Blue Pullman on the front is hanging together quite well for 50 odd years of age, at some point I copied my fathers sightings into it and he must have gone far and wide according to his shed visits underlined near the front. Regards
  7. Hi David I think I got 5 shillings a week for my combined rounds but I had to give my parents some (50%) of that as good practice for later when a proper job was taken. I have to say decilmilisaltion considerably improved things financially but I can't remember why. Five weeks of saving and not using some of my sweet allowance I think got me there. Oh, plus my fathers influence and taking me to other London spotting points free of bus fares helped. Regards Peter
  8. Hi Tony my combined volume cost 11'6d in 1962 and if I remember correctly it was several weeks milk round and evening paper round money plus some help from my father (value now would be around £10.50 approx). Great images again by the way. Regards Peter
  9. Oh and how I wish I had enough years and funds to put my spots from 1962 - 1964 / 1966 of No.s 5000 Launceston Castle to 5099 Compton Castle in which I spotted 51 of the "Castles" (including Earls) in that short time at Westbourne Park plus Manors Halls 0-6-0 PT's from the carriage sidings on my layout. Wonder whatever happened to Stuart Hall the local vicars son and my spotting mate.Just dug out my ABC volume from then, Oh my. Memories indeed. Anyway back to the modelling and thank you all for your input such a great forum topic. Regards Peter
  10. Hi Tony that is some of the most evocative modelling I have seen. For a relative newcomer like me you and your compatriots on this forum have set the bar very high indeed. Thanks Peter
  11. Hi Tony Are you using a macro lens for these shots or a telephoto? Regards
  12. Hi Tony The CDU can only deliver the charge stored in the capacitor, i.e. 16v for 50ms approx and depending on its rating, once that charge is emitted you have to wait till you lift the pen off the stud for the device to recharge. Therefore if you leave the "pencil" on the stud you will not damage the motor unless you have a major fault occurring which you have not as all the motors would show signs of playing up. Regards
  13. All Like all systems it has its pro's and con's. Whether DC, DCC, DCC with full PC control, Wireless or a vastly improved DC system this will evolve into other systems over the next few years that will try and attract the casual user / modeller by using the latest technology. All hobbies need to attract new users although I get a feeling the railway modelling scene is better off than many others. Regards
  14. Hi Tony How many point motors are you using to one CDU, is it all of them if so roughly how many ? The CDU's are usually rated at 12 - 21volts AC / DC 4700uF and in my working out I will use these figures as to the loading you are placing on the coils of the Seep unit. Throwing a double switch can require up to 2.8 amps and a cable size to cope. Regards Peter
  15. Hi Tony An after thought to my own answer and your original post, I am making this more complicated / involved than it needs to be, and as you have spares carry on replacing. Out of interest do you power everything off after an operating session or do you leave the layout in a form of standby ? Regards Peter
  16. Hi Tony Normally when this happens in an industrial automation situation or a light commercial use such as a large multi head milling machine or a signal light sequence the problem arises when the coil supply voltage is continually fluctuating between + - 10%, now in a normal situation this rears it head after a few months / weeks not a few years. I would suggest as a first point of correction (if you have a multimeter with a clamp meter available) simply monitoring the load / amps across the supply to the units and seeing if there is a large variation. The fact that you have had this happen a few times before recently suggests a variation in control voltage / amps to the unit. I might be barking at the wrong tree here but it would be the first place I would start if I had a couple of these go down in a relative short space of time. Regards Peter
  17. Hi Tony Do the Seeps produce any form of noise before a coil expires such as a buzzing or humming sound? Regards Peter
  18. Hi Tom Could not agree more, I could spend hours or days looking at or sifting through photographs of this quality and type. All I need to do is find someone selling a batch. Brings back memories of my steam years watching at Ladbroke on the GWR. Regards Peter
  19. All There are some really excellent models coming to the fore here, thank you for posting. Regards Peter
  20. Hello Steve Please keep us posted on progress of this. Regards Peter
  21. Hi Tony He is to be congratulated on the standard of these builds. Regards Peter
  22. Hi Jonathan That is a very good article and explains the tonal differences well, thanks for pointing it out. Very useful and can be applied to all images of that era across all groupings Pre and Post. Regards Peter
  23. Hi, I don't want to teach anyone to suck eggs so to speak but all colour photographs from film days will show different tones of colour due to the type, manufacture and ASA speed. Regards Peter
  24. Thanks for that relevant information although the You Tube issue is a interesting one, Regards
