Hyperbole: exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. (Oxford English Dictionary)

Maybe so, but since when have posters to this thread been required to post only legally accurate and measured assessments of what they see on Ebay? This is the "Ebay Madness" thread after all and is supposed to be fun but if you're going to object to hyperbolic descriptions of the tat this thread deals with then we might as well all go home.

Hello Mr Hyperbole. If the model matches the photos, then it's a done deal. You can pretty clearly see it's not the best modelling, but someone may be happy with it. If not, the seller is stuck with the thing. No-one is forced to buy this stuff.

Yes, you've made that point before and as I said at the time, I think you've missed the point of this thread...and the reality of whether someone is forced to buy this stuff or not isn't it.

Oh, and the snarky name-calling is out of order and immature coming, as it does, from an administrator who presumably would have something to say to others who did the same!

  3. Here's another one of his efforts:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166107975935?hash=item26acce90ff:g:aRMAAOSwEYJkDJ2b

He clearly uses a pumice stone to sand down his coach sides and this one's been primed over the top of the original lining and lettering. He's either blind or a spectacularly incompetent modeller. Then there's this:

which looks as if it's been made out of a shoebox.

Surely he will find out the hard way when it repeatedly fails to sell. Of, if someone does buy it, then he's a winner.

Even if it does sell on the basis that maybe the buyer's eyesight isn't up to the job of noticing the extent of the cr@ppiness, they surely will when it turns up on their doorstep! Then our chummy will be faced with a humiliating refund on the grounds that the thing's complete junk! His description signally fails to mention the fact that it's been stripped and sanded down by being dragged along a wall.

He’s clearly a gouger, not just on price but all along the coach sides as well.  What happened to the interiors?

I think he should be told! Just so that he knows he's been rumbled as such. 😉

    Lab Coach 10

Looks like a Lima Mk2 that has been treated with an actual chisel.  There’s a Lab 12 coach to go with it in the seller’s inventory.

How anyone can think that's acceptable baffles me. They're both wrecks! The pro weathering bit is hilarious! (Judging by the quality of the "weathering" I reckon that's a lie but if it isn't this guy needs to be asking for a refund). As if that makes up for the brutality that bodyshell has endured.

Turns out the scally couldn't resist posting about the full escapade on his Facebook page.

Similar to my incident the scally had filmed himself climbing over the back gate and eying up the motorbike then went and posted the whole lot to his Facebook account.'' You're nicked my son''

I simply cannot wrap my head around that sort of stupidity. These guys must have had the collective IQs of a bowl of soup.

Bubble wrap is fine for posting stuff out, not so good for long term storage. It can leave lots of little bubble shaped marks on the paint.

Many years ago I scratchbuilt an LMS Stove R for someone. When it was finished I posted it to him wrapped in bubble wrap. When it arrived it had those little circular marks all over the paintwork. The paintjob was a write-off so I had to take it back, strip it down and repaint it. That was a painful experience.

Imagine: gear-down the locomotive and build some suitable rolling stock for it to pull and you could run a train vertically up and down walls - as well as upsidedown!

Just the thing to go with your vertical record player!

Regarding madness, I just came across this! Imagine the bizzare layout potential this product may have! A cross between a monorail, a plateway and primitive "Hund" railway?

Nice one! But I wish they'd left more than half a second between picture cuts. I got dizzy watching that!

If I had an unused eBay account i'd be tempted to click on the sell similar button, duplicate his listing, wait an hour after its live and then edit the listing with STOLEN GOODS in the title and the link to the original listing. Pretty sure the bidders would become aware of what they're bidding on😉

    That's a really good plan!  👌

Unfortunately the big problem is the police aren't even interested in investigating your house getting burgled nowadays and this is well down that scale

Indeed. I sometimes wonder why we still pay them as you never see a bobby on the beat these days and if you report a run-of-the-mill crime or suspicious person you're met with obvious disinterest. They only seem to be concerned with terrorism now which is hardly a day to day problem as the chances of you dying at the hands of a terrorist is about the same as being struck by lightning. If you want to find a policeman in Edinburgh go to the Holyrood parliament. They're everywhere and they've all got automatic rifles! The politicians are guarded like royalty but the rest of us have to fend for ourselves. That said, you just try dealing with a situation yourself and they'll drop on you like a ton of coal with the old story that "it's the law's job to deal with crime". Oh really? SO WHERE IS THE LAW THEN?

    Rant over.

You start with a black jinty and carefully cut up the sides and boiler bands and stick them on, but you're still left with a black and green jinty, so somehow you have to match the green labels to a paint. Much too much effort for probably a  very poor result.

If you really wanted a green jinty (why would you?) it would be a lot easier and far more successful to paint it green and add some methfix transfers to it. This sticky paper label idea is carp.

Now 5 bidders at 75 sheets, with 7 hours to go. Will we see a late feeding frenzy??

It baffles me why anyone would part with money for that pile of junk...especially when it's advertised as such! As for it having "celebrity status", that must be a pretty low bar these days; Sam the girlfriend insulter ain't no celebrity.

I wonder if  the Jinty is inspired by this from Dapol. (Who assume did some research?)The locos carry the same number. Personally it's the first time I've seen such a logo combination

    https://www.ellisclarktrains.co.uk/products/Dapol-o-gauge-7s-026-007-class-3f-jinty-0-6-0t-br-black-e-c-47569

Looks like it is although I still think that combination is extremely unlikely. If it did exist, it must have been a one off as the livery policy of BR at the time didn't stretch to the full title and a crest. The title was only really a stopgap until an emblem was developed and when it was, the title vanished pretty quickly. As far as I remember they were all were gone by 1950 so I can't imagine this combination ever seeing the light of day. I'm prepared to be proven wrong though!

I don't believe his 'girlfriend' likes trains?

What on EARTH is that boy on? I wonder how much he paid that poor girl to appear in this farce who he then referred to as a "Heljan Cattle Van"? If she was his girlfriend then I can't imagine she is now but if she is someone needs to tell her she deserves better!

I also wonder if our eBay hero, prince among chisellers, is the same bloke who back in the late 80s.......banned me from his shop for putting in an offer on a secondhand kit 72xx which was a little heavily priced, but my temerity in not giving him what he wanted for it immedieately led him to summarily ban me on the spot.

It certainly sounds like our guy with the hair trigger!
