  1. I'm not sure why anyone would want this. It's not a collectible because it's been refurbished so no longer in original condition and it's far from an accurate model. Guarantee or not it looks hideously overpriced considering what it is.

£60 brake van - Still available new from Kernow for £35...

I couldn't resist telling this Ebay chiseller that bad news. Can't wait to see what he comes back with, if anything.

Edit: I've just had this back from the seller...

"Thank you for reaching out to us and highlighting this. I will pass it onto the relevant team in due course. Many thanks."

So they didn't check before snatching a selling price out of thin air...and does no one contact anyone anymore? They always "reach out"! Bl00dy Americanisms. 😡

  3. I think it's hilarious that in describing a loco that sounds as if it's fit for the spares box, they mention that it's got a "very good box" as if that somehow remedies the situation!

As a modeller of the LNWR I appreciate nice, well built models but here is another seller who  has been  sniffing something they shouldn't.

"beautifully made and painted" and  "In need of repair". Otherwise the description is reasonable and even if you model P4 gauge, not worth a low bid.

You might want that wreck for its motor/gearbox/wheels...but not at that price.

Another seller who seems not to be living in the real world!

Not just "not living in the real world", but actively living in cloud cuckoo land!

Lots of nice details on the condition of the box though!

    Very little about anything else....

He also says "Please inquire before purchase, in case this rake is unavailable, as I can usually offer alternatives". Which means his stupid price isn't based on the desirability or rarity of these particular coaches, he just feels he has the right to ask that kind of silly money for anything he happens to have available!

  7. Here is the shell temporarily mounted on the much modified underframe. It's not particularly accurate...I only had a couple of photos to work from and only one of them was a broadside but even that had the salient details in shadow. This coach appears never to have been photographed close up in its first modified form so the underframe additions are approximate at best.  It does, however give a good impression I think of the general clutter to be found under most catering vehicles and it looks quite close to what little detail I have seen on the real thing.

  8. It's got a weird windscreen wiper arrangement. The £60,000 was mentioned in that video as if was not much more than the price of a fish supper. I think not.

    Is this listing (a) A Dapol Class 56 diesel (b) A Midland/LMS Compound (c) A Midland/LMS 2P (d) None of these

(For the avoidance of doubt I already know the answer...)

Yes because everyone knows Class 56 diesels carry coal around as their fuel source!

  10. This is the rebuilt interior, with the saloon converted to storage and the restaurant section modified to allow for the corridor to be on the opposite side. The oval table nearest the camera was removed and replaced on the opposite side, that section of the floor cut out and turned round with one stool removed and its locating hole filled into create a space for passengers to pass...

And here's the bodyshell fitted with a scratchbuilt grille for the generator compartment together with two windows filled in on the other side as per prototype and the whole thing primed with Halfords' primer ready for the red and cream finish. The fun part will be reapplying the gold around the window frames...but I have a cunning plan.

The next job is to add is to add the various underframe details, such as fuel tank, associated with the generator.

Obviously someone who was taught to read and write in the 1990s. "We don't correct spelling as long as the pupil is getting his message across".

Indeed. These idiots were responsible for a trend that would have had us grunting at one another inside fifty years because no one was being taught the rules of language. It has to be said I don't see much improvement today. Common horrors like "would of" and "undoubtably" make my skin crawl...and don't get me started on misplaced apostrophes!

I guess it may be a first attempt by a child modeller?

Quite possibly. But charging thirty four quid for it is nonsense and mendacious chiselling of the highest order! Even the chassis is of dubious worth. That central gearwheel looks like it's been chewed by the dog.

  13. Back to the Reisebüro Mittelthurgau Restaurant/Servicewagen.

This is the Roco interior as intended for the original BR52ymg model. It's quite a bit better than every other Roco interior I've worked on in that the seats are seperate items clipped into place in the baseplate and the seats on the left are themselves in a subframe that sits inside the main frame. The seating on the right is a one piece moulding that inserts into place from underneath. The tables, kitchen area and partitions are all on the baseplate. This makes modification and painting a lot easier than usual.

As I have no pictures of the interior of this coach, I'm going to have to improvise based on a few assumptions. The tables and associated seating stay as they are although the table and four chairs next to the partition halfway along will have to change sides to allow for the door in the partition to be reversed to allow for the storage cupboard to be built in the area of one of the blanked out windows. All the seating nearest the camera will be removed and replaced with the generator compartment and a storage area which will have a passenger corridor down one side . I can't think of what else to do. No one even at the RMT can tell me how this vehicle was laid out internally and i've never been able to source a drawing of anything but the donor restaurant car.
