  1. Cannon Street H&BRly, St John Ambulance, 1908, possibly after a "Staged Accident". Internet find.
  2. This is the only decent photo' of Hull Bridge in original form known to myself. The two drawings are original H&BRly documents.
  3. Little Weighton cutting c1883, the early days of what would eventualy be bridge No49. Bridge No50 appears in the back ground and complited this suggests the masons and bricklayers were working west to east.,
  4. Once again, I'm wrong side of "The State Line", I include this for the details of the contractor's less than perfect trackwork, the point is of interest. H&BRly bridge 161 over the Midland Rly at Cudworth c1884.
  5. Coming this Saturday 17 February 2024 at the Carniege History Centre Anlaby Road/Walton Street corner,Hull 1330hrs an illustrated talk by Norman Hugill "Steam in the North East". Organised by the North Eastern Railway Assoc. All WELCOME, MEMBERSHIP NOT REQUIRED. See you there. Sample attached, Willerby June 1963.
  6. Further to No129 here is hopefully a sharper photo'. I have since learnt almost certainly taken in the Wath Branch sidings at Wrangbrook Jct.
  7. Rob, here is Middleton on the Wolds after a bit of modern magic.
  8. Further to Rob's comments re H&BRly Class A No117, here are three versions of the same print. The black and white example is obviously the original negative, and the coloured view a hand tinted interpretation. The third print is intregeing, but why it was done I have no idea, it relates to no known H&BRly style of painting. The location is Springhead shed yard, and probly 1907 when the engine was new. The background trees probably remain, the railway as long gone.
  9. Wilmington swing bridge, opened May 1907, last train 26 October 1968, remains in use as a public right of way. This view looking west towards Wincolmlee. E Bay buy, no details but suggest c1910.
  10. Rob, 2427 is taken at Botanic, I have the same photo' and labelled so. Apart from the ex NERly engine in the background, the house chimneys protruding above it ( NE engine) prove it can not be Springhead.
  11. Dear Rob, here is the original print of H&BRly No113, Springhead, 19 September 1904.
  12. Contractor's engine, said to have been used on the construction of Hull King George Dock.
  13. Harold, said to have been used during the construction of "Joint Dock" Hull.
  14. Boris, thanks to a friend, I can now confirm Shunting in to Forward Section was not in the LNERly Block book. The regulation did appear in the BRly's "Standard" book which came into force 1 October 1960.
  15. Boris, a similar stuation when I was signalman at Beverley Cherry Tree, trains were blocked on to Beverley North and then cancelled when shunted back, either through the X Over or in to the yard. After I moved on, the Special Instructions were alltered and Shunt into Forward Section was authorised.
  16. No37 is indeed a 2-4-0, Class H1 an original 1885 Beyer Peacock engine of 1885 as later rebuilt by Mr Stirling. No118 is post 1907 when the class was introduced, but not much later then c1910 when the pattern of signal arm proment in the photo was replaced.
  17. Flooding at Willerby H&BRly c1910. Scan thanks to Nick Dekon.
  18. Tim, when you get back ti it, I look forward to more progress on the Raven Pacific.
  19. Further to the above photo' of No1371, here is the track and signalling layout. The signal promenent in the picture is on the attached No4, the train is stood in the Up Sidings.
