Historical tram No. 240 was also out and about.

 

 

 

 

 

Approximately 100 years separate the dates into service of these two trams.

You mean no.8488 (4th photo) and some of the others (8555) aren't historical?

Brings back a few memories.  I was at a tram conference there in 2004 when we had an evening trip on one of the vintage trams. 

 

I was in Riga last week and they run the same two types as in the first two photos.  The Tatras there also run in pairs, but instead of two pantographs there is a trolley pole raised on the first one (the city also runs trolleybuses whose overhead doesn't mix with pantographs!) and a fat cable at roof level taking the volts to the trailing tram.

In Katowice (Poland), the Konstal 105N trams go around 'mob- handed'. Only one pantograph is up and the current is carried between cars by jumper cables at drawbar level.

Thanks for posting. I was there probably around 2005, so interested to see some new types of Tram now in service. I did think the acceleration of the Tatra Trams was very fast, nearly getting caught out once, but it may just be my perception.

Both the acceleration and the speed achieved between stops in Prague appeared to me to be much faster compared to my experiences on the tram networks in Manchester and Sheffield.

 

I was very impressed with the system in Prague and with a day ticket in the city, which also covers use of the metro and buses, costing 110 Czech Crowns (equivalent to about £3) excellent value too.
