RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted January 23, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2021 2 steps forward, 1 step back....... Since the last update, 50031 has been glossed varnished, had the decals added, & Satin varnished. Pics later, when the varnish is dry ! The GBRf duo were ready to have decals applied, or so I thought......... First one on. Makes the Orange bodywork look all wrong ! Done a colour comparison with Railmatch paint. The paint was still wet when I took the pic, so it will probably dull down slightly, but it is enough to persuade me to repaint the Orange. Will give a bigger contrast between the Orange & the warning panel Yellow too. (which I reckon is too dark, but enough is enough !!) Cheers, Phil. 4 2
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted January 24, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 24, 2021 Orange repainted on the GBRf duo, jury is still out as to whether it was worth the effort ! 031 is ready to be rebuilt. Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted January 25, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2021 So I've officially got more completed models of the class than there were actual prototypes built ! This is fleet number 51. Actually, it's sporting 'Ark Royal' crests ( I've got loads of 'em !!), until I get appropriate 'Hood' ones. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted January 30, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 30, 2021 Got the GBRf pair rebuilt, just waiting for Railtec to have Defiance plates back in stock. A little light weathering to be done, just mainly around the exhaust ports. There's a couple of subtle differences between the 2 prototypes- 007 has the opaque roof panel (but the outer lip of the panel is painted!) 007 has Silver under the cab doors (Hornby got that right!) 007 has warning stickers on the battery box cover, only on 1 side. Up until this pair, I didn't know the airhorn grilles were separate parts, which makes it easier to paint them 'Brass' colour !! I think repainting the jumper cable boxes on the front helps give better definition from the Yellow ends. Cheers, Phil. 10
KDG
Phil they are the best Hornby 50's I've seen. Top work.
Swifty11
Top drawer! Superb job on the 50s. The GB ones are how they should have looked from Hornby if they'd done their homework properly. 2

That's because we are thinking out side the box....with a bit of blue sky thinking! RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted February 5, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 5, 2021 Another loco stashed under the workbench..... It's had nameplates fitted, modern warning flashes, dummy high intensity headlights, as well as a roof-pod intended for a Heljan 33, to add to the supplied detailing parts. The rest of the work was just detail painting and weathering. ( Luckily, the roof-pod appears to be a different shade of Grey to the rest of the body in prototype pics. ) It now looks like this..... Think I'll be looking to see if the 20227 that Bachmann announced this week is suitable to transform into 20132 ! Cheers, Phil. 9

RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted February 14, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 14, 2021 This is something outside my usual sphere of operation..... During lockdown, Dad has taken a liking to building Metcalfe kits. I'm not a particularly a fan of cardboard, but it's his layout ! I told him to leave the back off each building, saying that Jack would print some interiors for them. What he didn't know was the plan was also to fit lights. This is actually the second row of buildings he's completed, but I forgot to take pics of the first row !! Day time- Night time- I guess I better sort out the chimney pots before they go back to Dads !! Cheers, Phil. 8
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted February 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 14, 2021 Metcalfe are a great base for hacking about. Add a bit of 3D detail - gutters etc and they can be made to look really good
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted February 14, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 14, 2021 I’ll just be glad to get them back to Dad’s in one piece ! The two rows have been tried in different combinations, until the lineup was settled on. The angled ends of this row just fit nicely on the station area board. I will take some pics of the scene when it’s complete. Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted February 21, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 21, 2021 Been getting on with a few part finished projects recently. Finally got around to putting an order into Railtec for the numbers for the 33 & 37 that have been part finished for ages. As usual, the numbers arrived in double-quick time. They've been applied & varnished, so the rebuilds can begin. I've also fitted the headcodes to D9009. I'd managed to lose the original marker-light lenses, so have had to fabricate some from plastic sheet. The light shines through fine, in fact I think I'll have to turn down the brightness when I've found out how to do that on a V4 chip ! Couldn't resist adding the Winged Thistle headboard. Also fitted sound to 43002, & weathered it to the condition Jack wanted. (it is his !! ) Cheers, Phil. 15
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted February 23, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 23, 2021 The 33 & 37 are back complete. Just a dark grey wash over the bodywork, followed by airbrushed frame dirt & roof dirt. Cheers, Phil. 13
bradfordbuffer
Lovely job phil! Lived in not abandoned look....the front of 33 needs its wipers 'parking' correctly...drivers humm?
