Evening guys.....

Hope all are well...?

The experiments continue.....

IMG_0052.JPG.a83fd960364295c88a02fcdee90e75fe.JPG

.......here I have applied a coat of grey-green acrylic as a base colour.....

IMG_0054.JPG.955d79e1b6c248ae6a697a2087968ae8.JPG

.......... also experimenting with the next armateur by applying artex and sculpting the texture onto the wires of the trunk and connecting branches....the branches themselves to be filled in some other manner yet to be decided on this one......I am attempting various methods to see which one I am most comfortable.....all at the moment are equally as 'messy'!

Will keep you posted......

Regards always......

Hi Guys.....

Hope all's well.....?

I may be 'going overboard' with this but learning all the time......

to 'fill' the twists' in the thinner branches a little, have used PVA.

Placed a blob of PVA and allowed to thicken slightly before dabbing into the troughs between the ridges of the twists, this is setting and will hopefully smoother than the rather lumpy effect produced by the paint used previously?

Looks a bit white a this stage for obvious reasons, but will post when painted up in its bas colour......comments appreciated as always.....

Evening guys....Hope all's well....?

Before I begin painting up the armateur, thought I'd post what I have attempted to do.....

the first image is how it look before......

IMG_0059.JPG.2be0f7169d3cd20218c9aa283dde54b9.JPG IMG_0061.JPG.38e77b64c2c24a1932ea941cc11d144b.JPG

then ......made some slight cosmetic changes to the wires by either just contorting these to form up a twiggy effect, or to make small bifurcating ends, double backed the wire, twisted it into a loop, the end of which was the cut to form a small 'fork'...?

Only small thing but hopefully has provided a bit of interest.

Will post again when I have painted this in its base colour......

Stay safe guys.....

Regards always....

Bob

It's looking good Bob. Paint it and add some greenery to it let's see what it looks like finished up.

Regards Lez.

Hi Lez....

Thanks for the message.....yep, will add a base colour, then the darker tones for bark contrast......have the necessary fibre and leaf scatter on order so will have to await that to arrive for the next big stage in this particular learning curve, did initially think of using the usual lichen, but considered its look unsuitable?

Regards always

Bob

Hi All.....

Will spend the interim period whilst awaiting the arrival of the fibre to look for tips on how to apply the medium, the leaf scatter and how to fix both....?

Cheers guys....

Afternoon all.....

Hope all are well......?

Have tried a different approach to forming the branches and comments on this would be appreciated as always......

......in an attempt to produce a greater 'gnarled' effect when making the branches on this one, randomly twisted certain wires in a series of loops which were then twisted back on themselves to secure and subsequently cut to produce hopefully a more rough and aged appearance, lowering the crown of the tree more towards the ground?

Will use pva to run into the branches to secure and will obviously post when that has been done....

......certainly looks an older tree, perhaps?

Evening....

Filler has been applied to thicken some of the gaps in the wire along with a final layer of pva; will allow this to dry overnight and then intend to paint with initial base colour......

Hello Guys......

Here are the two test armateurs that have now been painted up with a base colour....when these are dry the intention is to give some lighter dry brush contrast upper bark tones......I am awaiting the imminent arrival of the fibre and scatter to produce foliage effect.....

Comments as always appreciated.....

They both look very good indeed Bob. You seem to have mastered the knack of tree making very well my old mate. I look forward to seeing them both foliaged up.

Evenin'all....
Hope you've braved today's wind and rain....?

I may require a bit of guidance here.....although the two armateurs that have been recently created are not going to be the trees that'll probably be 'landing' on the layout, I want to use these two to gain experience before moving on to the 'real' thing......

So with that in mind have dry brushed on lighter tones and allowing to dry to see what effect they have....here are the results so far......

as always comments greatly appreciated, the fibre and scatter is here so once I feel that trunk is okay, which will be mainly hidden anyway I suppose I will have an attempt at placing the 'canopy'...

They look really good Bob. I don't think they need anything else just the foliage.

Regards Lez.

Thanks Lez.....

As it's a day off tomorrow and due to lockdown there's no Arley volunteering,  depending upon the weather, it may be a part afternoon gardening then having a stab at the foliage side, even if it's just putting the webbing on...?

Morning all, everything okay I hope...?

In a natural daylight this is how the tree weathering looks, will leave as it is and post further images when 'the leaf canopy' 'is formed up....

Hi....

Poly fibre has been lightly stretched over the armateur....will shape into the tree prior to a light spray of fixer, then leaves sprinkled over the whole thing.....

Comments appreciated on this stage...

IMG_0099.JPG.ccac37ba68bf0b97769c28b81491b984.JPG

Will leave gaps within the canopy as would be the case in the real world.

Bob

Hi

I will add 'heavier' leaf scatter to see how it looks and to provide experience for future trees, at this stage this looks like very early spring perhaps?

Bob

Thanks Bill for you very kind comment....never having done this previously, I want to experiment on it further but also don't want to 'over egg the pudding' as it were, I may just add a little lighter brown tone for contrast but nothing too 'heavy'.....

Regards always,

Bob
