Maxwill
Above the BRM Magazine article about the ESU Switchpilot there is banner saying: Need advice? If you need help with anything DCC-related visit www.brmm.ag/DCCQuestions It doesn't compute for me, any clues gratefully received, cheers
Ron Ron Ron
......visit www.brmm.ag/DCCQuestions..... I think .ag is Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean. Sounds like a peculiar place to obtain DCC information and help from? Mmmmm? .
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted March 14, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2016 Brm.mag sounds more plausible......
Austrag
Tried a combination all things BRM
Crosland
Brm.mag sounds more plausible...... .ag works just fine (links back to RMWeb). .mag just takes you to google. Must be a Caribbean tax haven for the RMWeb mods
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 14, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2016 Apparently it is a "branded short domain". Supposed to enhance the brand more than the usual random character short domain name!
Maxwill
I really thank you all, why they printed that in that way heaven only knows.
Matt Roe
It's nothing sinister - just a way of creating a short URL. i.e. BRM Mag becomes brmm.ag If you actually typed the URL into a web browser you would have been redirect to this set of pages as Crosland has mentioned. It has nothing to do with 'why they printed that in that way', it was done correctly, nothing else would have worked! The long form of the URL would have been: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/21-dcc/ so actually BRM & Warners would be congratulated in trying to make it easier to find a forum web address. They could of course have used a Google short URL, such as: http://goo.gl/Kp82GF but if I'm honest that is a bit worse as it contains random characters and not words. You can't copy and paste from a page, so using normal English is much easier to copy and type when in printed form. So overall thumbs up to BRM, and I must say linking a magazine to a forum like RMWeb in order to give people advice is a refreshing approach and progressive publishing. Long gone are the days when the magazine was the only source of information for the hobbyist, the forum has long since replaced the 'Readers letters' and Warners clearly realise this. So overall - thumbs up - not down.
