I'm sure he'd be willing to share some tips. As John (St Enodoc) suggests.....happy to answer any questions. If, understandably, you dont want to clutter your thread either ask on Granby or send me a PM. I can give you the links to some videos I have made which give a sense of the projects you can do. Computor control is quite expensive and, by its very nature, not for everyone. For me I find it totally fascinating. It adds a whole new dimension to operating for this solitary modeller! On another note I think your Affinity tweaks have made a big difference....those latest shots look brilliant Best wishes John 2 1
RMweb Gold checkrail Posted October 30, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2019 Thanks to all who've supplied info./suggestions re automated fiddle yards. I've made notes for future reference. (It's a long term aspiration rather than an immediate priority.) Might ask questions of a few suppliers at Warley too. Cheers, John. 1
RMweb Gold checkrail Posted October 30, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2019 But the thing I really need to do in the fiddle yard is to motorise the 17 points, currently operated by Maplin slider switches (which also switch frog polarity) from the front of the baseboard. This was an attempt to keep costs down in the midst of all the significant outlay when I started building the layout. Capacity in the loops is a bit tight so, pending any automated stopping, trains are currently stopped manually when the front buffer faces align with the 'lollipop stick' indicators in the pic below. Crude but effective! John C. 14

RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted October 30, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 30, 2019 Something which I hope is a bit more photogenic. It's summer 1939 and a King heads towards Paddington bringing holidaymakers home from Cornish resorts. Next year will be a bit different. RMweb Gold Popular Post Harlequin Posted October 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) Hi John, I hope you don't mind but because you mentioned 1939 and technicolour you gave me the idea to take one of your photos and replicate the distinctive feel of a 1930s colour photo: I'm not sure I've quite got it yet but I think I'm on the right track. I desaturated the colours overall, flattened out the blue levels, emphasized the shadows to make the photo look slightly underexposed and applied some edge shading on top. RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted October 31, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 31, 2019 Two more of the King. Take your pick. I keep finding slightly different angles. It only occurred to me this morning to take the tripod mount off the bottom of the camera before resting it on the rails. Surprising what a difference 1/2 an inch makes. RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted October 31, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 31, 2019 Launceston Castle waits for the signal as King Henry V approaches on the up line. And here the Castle gets the all clear as the King draws nearer. Main line action scenes like this make me glad I didn't play safe with a BLT on my 2012 return to the hobby. (Must straighten that wonky sign at the platform end. Got knocked by the camera, an occupational hazard of layout photography - though I bet Andy Y never does it!) RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted October 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2019 Lovely photos but have you noticed the gap between the front frames and the running plate of the King? (It's a bit unfair to put those two photos alongside each other but they show how good the model really is in most respects!) It seems to be a flaw of the model because upon examination my King looks exactly the same... 6 1

Thanks Phil. No, I hadn't noticed but I've just been up to check. A bit of gentle downward pressure and I heard/felt a faint 'click' and think I might have fixed it, or at least improved it, as I hope these pics show. Should've straightened lamp while I was at it. Anyway, here's another view of royal majesty. John. 25
Anglian
Your black and white images look absolutely stunning. Like Harlequin I like the sunset! As I first scrolled down I thought I was about to reveal a Turneresque backscene. 1
KNP
Getting some great pictures that are really doing the layout justice now. DoF, colour and lighting just about right. No stopping you now, try the camera on WiFi remote to your mobile phone so you can control it in places you can't normally get to, to operate it. 2 2 1 1
