SDJR7F88
An old ceral box, aluminum take-way tray, wicker garden board and a ton of coffee stirrers (Plus the odd Woodland Scenics Realistic Rock for added effect), and we have the first sections of the Trench Walls! Not counting the Realistic Rocks, all the materials used (including glues) to do the whole layout, have come to just under £2! (Plus a nice Chinese Meal) Let me know what you think! SDJR7F88
The fifth installment on the build of the WW1 Narrow Gauge Trench Railway in 009 Scale, and yet again there's been lots of progress. In this update, there's been plenty l more work on the landscaping, which includes the completion ballasting, creation of the Road and Crossing, plus work has also begun on the Trench Walls, which will be one of the main features on the layout when complete. There's also been lot work on the underside of the layout, with the addition of the manual point operating system. SDJR7F88
Following my recent post on the create of my Trench Wall's I'd thought I'd create a short tutorial, to show how I create the Corrugated Iron Sheets, used for the base of the walls. These Corrugated Iron Sheets are great for any layouts or dioramas, using nothing more than a recycled Take-Away Tray, a Pen and Ruler, plus a bit paint. Perfect for modelling Buildings, Roofs, Scrap and Trench Walls in Any Scale!Hope it's of interest! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd0O9JB2ZDI
SDJR7F88
Sorry it's gone a bit quite of late, been very busy with things, including more progress on the layout! Progress includes the completion of the Trench Walls, more trees to the wooded area, as well as dead trees and debris to the raised areas, road added to the backscene, plus an overall base coat of mud brown. Think it's really starting to look like a layout now! Here's a few pics of recent progress...

Work includes the completion of the Trench Walls, along with the addition of more trees to the wooded area, as well as fallen wood and other debris to the raised areas. I've also added new section to the backscene, giving the road a sense of depth, as well as giving the overall layout a base coat of mud brown. Think it's really starting to look like a layout now! SDJR7F88
Let there be light! My first attempt at display and working lighting on a layout. Amazed with how natural the light looks, not a bad buy from my visit to Ikea. Also managed to pick up a couple of trestle tables for supporting the layout at shows. Just need to build them Let me know what you think! p

SDJR7F88
The first of two new arrivals for the Trench Railway! A look at the all new Decauville Progres 0-6-0T Locomotive from MinitrainS, in smart plan black livery. This lovely little model features a directional headlamp, as well as a powerful motor with brass flywheel, for slow and smooth running. Here's we see the Decauville in action on my 009 WW1 Trench Railway, which is currently under construction, hauling a short rake of accompanying WW1 rolling stock. Just needs a bit of weathering, plus crew and she's good to go to work! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKo0ymYQ7jg

SDJR7F88
he seventh update on the build of the WW1 Narrow Gauge Trench Railway in 009 Scale, and once again there's been lots of progress. The biggest changes includes the addition of both display and decorative lighting, along with the addition of the first layer of mud to the raised area, with the rest of the layout soon to follow. Plus the Layout now has a few more outings planned for 2018! With just 5 weeks left until the layouts first outing at the Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show, on January 14th 2018, the race is now on to get the layout ready... and there's still quite away to go! RMweb Premium OnTheBranchline Posted December 10, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 10, 2017 This is one of the most original/creative layouts on RMWeb, the audacity of doing this type of layout makes it so (rather than the typical 1950s/1960s BR steam/diesel). SDJR7F88
This is one of the most original/creative layouts on RMWeb, the audacity of doing this type of layout makes it so (rather than the typical 1950s/1960s BR steam/diesel). Thanks ever so much for the kind word! Glad you like it! Must admit it's been a bit of a challenge to source all the part and info, but it's really starting to come together now Just got to get it to an exhibit-ital standard for it's first outing in less than 5 weeks time! The pressure is certainly on now, with lots still to do... Once again many thanks indeed!
SDJR7F88
The layout looks great Callum, you've done a really good job Thanks ever so much Corbs! Still a lot to do in such a short space of time. Hopefully it will be a to a displayable standard for it's first outing at the beginning of January
SDJR7F88
Finally made a start with the scenics on the WW1 Trench Railway. So far I've nearly completed the ground cover for the wooded area by the road, which including ferns and fallen leaves. I've also made a start to the crater next to the woodland, which is scattered with dead trees and wood. To contrast the mud, I've added patches of grass, which once formed a part of a lush meadow. Naturally, I've also gone an added some patches of Poppies, adding a extra splash of colour to the otherwise brown landscape. I plan to feature more throughout the layout. Let me know what you think!
SDJR7F88
Two more vehicles built for the Trench Railway, Mack Refueling Truck and Wippet Tank. The Mack took over 2 months to build and paint, the Wippet took just 4 Hours! Then again I did have to build the engine, gear box and other things under the bonnet in the refueling truck! All that's left to do is Transfers and Weathering
SDJR7F88
An overall view of the Trench Railway so far. Just over a month left before it's first outing and there still a long way to go. Started work on the stable interior today, along with addition on more grass tufts and poppys to the raised area. I also spent the day painting farm items and over 50 artillery shells, courtesy of WD models (sadly the my camera ran out of space, so will take some pics at a later date). Now to check the list and to see what's to do next
SDJR7F88
After many weeks of assembling and painting vehicles, soldiers, ammo crates and artillery shells, I though it was time to start setting them out on the layout, to get a feel on where they will be positioned. After seeing it all in place, it really does feel like all the hours of hard work is starting to pay off Big thanks to WD Models for the supplies! Just placed another order for more shell
SDJR7F88
More progress was made recently, including the daunting task of adding mud to the area around the tracks, tanks and artillery battery. After 12 hours of hard work (yep, 12 hours in the loft ), I finally did it! The ballast is now covered, artillery shells are stacked, tyre and tank tracks have been marked in the mud and the first few vehicles have been weathered to match. Just need to add a few more details, touch up the weathering and add mud to the inside of the point work, and the whole area should be complete! Just got to hope that it all works after a good clean... Fingers crossed.
