As you can imagine it's been all hands on deck, testing and adding the final touches to the WW1 Trench Railway this week, ready for it's first outing at the Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show this coming weekend (Sunday 14th January).
A test run was carried out yesterday and all seems to be running well so far, though there are still room for improvement.
Due to time, and not wanting to rush things, I've come to the decision that I won't be weathering any of the stock in time for the show, as I want to get it right first time around, especially after spending so much time building the layout. Of course the layout is still a work in progress too. ;)
As mentioned in my previous update, I said I would try and get around to filming one more update before the show and if I find a bit of free time I'll try my up most best to do so, but if not, there will certainly be more in the future, as improve and add to the layout :
In the mean time, I've managed to put together a little edit (see above post), ready for the weekend. ;)
So if your looking for something to do this Sunday, pop by the Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show and come and say Hi, and see the layout on it first outing!
Callum

Callum.. I've really enjoyed your build of this, it's looking amazing! The quick video was also very swish.  I'm jealous of how quickly you went from baseboard to completed too.

Maybe a little weathing on the locos to tone them down. But good luck on Sunday, I know you are going to get a lot of interest.

Cant wait to see this on Sunday! Don't worry about weathering, I'm sure most people are far more interested in the operation and overall look of the layout. :)

2 Days to Go! And lots of bits and bobs sorted today.
First up, the Minitrains Decauville and Schneider have received a crew. I've also added the Stakes to the US Flat Cars (as you can imagine this took quite a while), as well as test fitting a number of loads.
As for the layout, it's finally received it's display skirt. I was originally intending on going for a black fabric, but then I came across this material, similar to that of sand bags... Though it would make a nice touch ;)
Other additions to the layout include the full painted Crossing Keep, Point Levers, Rusted Barbwire and further Artillery Shells to the depository.
Think a bit of cleaning and packing is in order tomorrow, ready for the big day!

Thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed it! Oh yes, that will come at a later date, didn't want to rust them for the show. Fingers crossed it goes well :)

The ninth update on the build of the WW1 Narrow Gauge Trench Railway in 009 Scale. With the layouts first outing just at day away, preparations are well under way adding the finishing touches. Plenty of changes and addition have been added, since the previous update, including a change of scenery, with the layout now standing on it's own legs. The mud effect is also now down in the Farm Yard, along with the figures and other details. Rubble has also now been added to the Stables/Workshops, underbrush and trees added to the wood and the second Artillery Battery in position. Other details, also include the addition of static grass and poppies throughout the layout. With just 1 Day to go until the layouts first outing at the Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show, on January 14th 2018, there's now lots of packing and testing to do. If your visiting the show, be sure to come and say Hi, and see the layout on it first outing!

Hope you enjoy!

It was fantastic to see it for real today, just as impressive in the flesh as it is in your pictures! Sorry I did introduce myself but it was so busy and you had a good amount of admirers crowded round. :)

Also, after watching your reviews of them I picked up a Minitrains Schneider Locotracteur and Decauville Progres at the South West 009 open day yesterday.

No worries Alex, I'm sure there will be another time. Really was amazed by the amount of interest in it! Couldn't even wonder off for a cup of tea!  :mosking: Was great to hear so much positive feedback about it. Glad the little reviews were of help! They really are superb little models, they certainly had a good spin on the layout over the course of the day.

Good to see this at WSM - seemed to be going well!

Thanks Chris. Was good to see you again too. Sorry I didn't get around to having much of a chat. Was a bit busier than what I though it would be!

Hi Callum

I enjoyed the show, and it was good to see Amiens 1918 'in the mud', so to speak!

cheers

Kevin

Well, the first outing with the Trench Railway over and done with, and what I say.
Amazing to see so much interest in the layout, both young and old, plus lots of positive comments. Had a few little niggles, not to drastic, but on a whole the layout performed very well indeed!
Not only that, but the layout was awarded 3rd Place for Best in Show! Not bad for a first outing at all!  :locomotive:

Glad it went well, well done on 3rd! The simplex looks really smart, looking forward to seeing some more pictures.

Thanks ever so much! Oh yes, was a visitor from the BLR next to me ;) So got to get one at some point! Sadly didn't get much footage or pictures, but I've got a little. Will post it now

A video dairy documenting my 009 Scale WW1 Trench Railway - "Amiens 1918 - Tracks & Trenches" first display, at the Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show 2018! In this video, we take a look at the run-up to the show, including packing, transporting and setting up the layout to the event, as well the big day itself, showing how the layout got on, at it's first public outing. I would like to say a massive thank you for all the interest and kind words over the course of the build, and to those who visited the show to come and see the layout in person. More show dates to be confirmed soon! Hope you enjoy!

Sunday 14th January 2018, saw the 13th Semi-Annual Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Exhibition. The show featured no less than 30 layouts in a variety of gauges, plus a large selection of Demo's, Societies and Trade Stands. The event also marked the first outing of my WW1 Trench Railway - "Amiens 1918". All money raised from the event goes to local charities. Filmed during the set-up for the show, we take a quick look at just some of the stunning layouts on display on the day. Hope you enjoy!
