Thanks ever so much for the link! Some very help pics and information there. Give me a few more ideas for wagon loads :)

I rather liked the "running between the houses" one - a very different alternative to the usual "under a bridge", or "into a tunnel"  method of getting the train off-scene, when the other alternative of " into/under trees" would almost certainly have been blasted away..... glad it was helpful

Very interesting link. Thinking of creating a model cameo (sometime in the future) of a Sutherland Station during WW2 when the Jellicoe Express carried troops to and from Thurso. I have seen some photos from WW2 of Lairg Station with troops milling on the platform and being served refreshments by the local ladies. Will see if I can get permission to post a copy of one of these photos.

Finally got around to weathering the first locomotive for the WW1 Trench Railway, the Minitrains Brigadelok 0-8-0T.
It's been a number of years since I've weathered rolling stock, and must admit it took a bit of a while to get back into the swing of things.
Due to the exposed gears and motor on this one I thought I'd try a new technique, featuring washes. It took a few attempts to get it how I wanted it, but overall very happy with look so far.
Still needs more work on the frames, rods and buffer beams, plus it's matching water cart, but not too far off complete.
Let me know what you think!

Excellent job, I'd say.  Just the right level of all-over grime plus deeper grime where this would collect, or not be so easily cleaned. Spot on.

very nice lads, i havent seen many models of the pershing wagons before and most people that do ww1 narrow gauge just use the hudson wagons

a funny anecdote  about the tanks, as you know the male has 6 pounder guns, the female has machine guns and if it has both its called a hermaphrodite

Thanks ever so much! Glad you like it! Really pleased with how it's turned out so far. Never weathered a loco so small before! Will have to what happens when I get onto the Decauville Progres, which is currently the smallest member of the Trench fleet ;)

That's really nice, well done. The Bangnall is crying out for the same treatment, I've always thought they look just too 'grey'.

Thanks ever so much! Oh yes! It will soon get the same treatment ;) Must admit it really stands out standing next to this one now :)

Certainly was a clever and interesting way of telling the difference between, what pretty much is the same design of tank :)

Doing a bit of paper work, filling out show forms for just some the Trench Railway's planned outings this year. Looks like it's certainly going to be a busy one, with shows planned for the South West, Wales and Midlands!
I'll post full list of all the planned/confirmed shows for 2018 soon.:)

Bit more weathering and painting done today.
First up was the German Water Cart, which now matches the Brigadelok, using the same wash technique. Whilst the loco was out, I also made a start on the under-frames and rods.I plan to add a bit of mud dust effect at a later date.
I also got around to painting the Red Buffer Beam on the Decauville Progres Black, which looks a lot more fitting in the Trenches. The red is still just poking through, though this will be sorted when the loco receives it weathering treatment. Other plans for the loco including adding some WD Markings to the side tanks. :)
Hopefully will have a bit more stock weathered in time for the Layout's next outing in just under 2 weeks time at the Gartell Light Railway Model Railway Exhibition, Templecombe on the 10th - 11th Feb

Made a start on weathering 3 of the 5 US Bogie wagons. After a few hours of applying the washes they certainly look a lot more suited for the Trench Environment now.
I started off with an overall wash of Citadel Nuln Oil, wiped clean, followed by a light wash of AK Interactive Dry Dust.
Very pleased with how the wood effect on the decks has come out. Though I may added a bit more Dry Dust to the bogies.
Must admit I did manage to detach all four stakes on the both the Flat Car, but with a bit of super glue all are now back in their rightful place. Should be interesting when I come to weathering the 2 with all the side stakes added too... :jester:

First set of W^D Transfers added to the Decauville Progres. Really does suit her very well.
At the moment they are just balancing in place, awaiting some spray vanish. Just to to make sure nothing touches them until then, as they've fallen off once or twice all ready.  :paint:  ;)

Yesterday I got around to giving the Trench Railway a once over with Rail Zipfor the first time (never used it before, but thought I'd give it a go). As recommend I used a lint free cloth, which I wrap around my Woodlands Scenics Track Clean. I applied 4 little drops (one in each corner), once the drops had dried I added a touch more (Did this about 3 times to do the whole lot). Once complete, I went over with a clean cloth.

Must say I was very impressed with the results, was amazed with how much dirt came up. I haven't got around to testing a train on it yet, but hopefully all will be well (I noticed it mentioned allow 10 - 12 hours to dry on the bottle, so can I run trains straight after)? Will report back tomorrow, when I give the layout a quite test run before it's second outing this coming weekend at the Gartell Light Railway Model Railway Exhibition, Templecombe.

Hopefully it will run fine.

I've never used that, but I've been using graphite for the last few years, and I'm a convert. I've not cleaned track for years now, but always get super smooth slow running - yes, even in 009 - I just rub a little more graphite on the rails if there's a bit where locos stall, I use a graphite stick from Hobbycraft. It seems to prevent grease and dirt build up and keeps wheels clean as well as helping make good electrical contact - and as a shiny grey, it looks good on the rail top. At one exhibition someone asked if my (Peco) track had steel rails!

A short Slide Show, taking a look at some of my recent weathering projects. In this addition, we take a look at the Minitrains Brigadelok 0-8-0T and Water Cart, which have been brush weathered using a mixture of Acrylic Washes. I've gone for an all over oily look, based on images of the real locomotive and tenders in service. These are the first two items that I've weathered for use on my 009 Scale WW1 Trench Railway, with more items to follow.

Hope you enjoy!

Bit more weathering and cleaning done, ready for the weekend! Can safely say the Layout seems to be running well after it's first treatment with Rail Zip. Hopefully will will run smooth at the show. Thanks for all the info about not over doing it.
As for weathering and detailing, first up, the Minitrains Decauville has had it's transfers varnished. Really looks the part now, thought it will be weathered at a later date too. I had a bit of trouble with it not running smooth during the layouts first outing, so decide to clean the wheels with some Rail Zip and a cotton bud. At first the engine would not move at all (was very worried at that point), but after a while I got it moving. Once on a roll it started to run sweet at a nut (apart from a few stalls on the insulfrogs). Touch wood it will run well at the show this weekend.
Next up, I added the finishing touches to the final two US Stake Wagons. Very pleased with how they turned out, they certainly look the part in a full rake. Now to some loads to put on them... :

Well, the Trench Railway is all cleaned and packed away, ready for it's second outing tomorrow at the Gartell Light Railway Model Railway Exhibition, Templecombe (Sat 10th - 11th Feb).
Managed to get around sorting my new stock box. The rolling stock and vehicles fit a treat, with plenty of room spare.
Hopefully all will run smoothly.  :)
Here's a link to more info on the event;

A successful first day with the Trench Railway at the Gartell Light Railway Model Railway Exhibition. After some more teething troubles with the points, and the Decauville not running playing ball, all ran quite smoothly.
Was good to catch with some familiar faces, plus meet some new ones too.
Back again tomorrow! :)
