Mate, it's your railway, not ours, if you want a fence to hide the platform join, then by gad sir, you shall have one!

I felt the handle on the valve looked too big and bulky and as I don’t throw anything away that may become useful I found this in my odds ‘n’ ends box as the perfect replacement

Added bonus it’s already black so no painting required

I’ve managed to get it assembled and weathered (possibly too heavily)

The chain that came in the Ratio kit in my opinion is far too big so I’ve used Langley 40 link/inch

I’ve managed to thread on a larger link at the hopper end and I’ve blacken it all using a brass blackening solution

I’d also given the grid a coat of humbrol gloss cote but you can’t really tell

Anyway, The water crane has had a coat of Matt varnish applied so I’ll leave it for now, fingers crossed it will soon be another item off the ‘to do’ list

I hoped the ramp fencing would be long enough to cover the length of the ramp.....no such luck

So out with the craft knife and glue again taking two vertical planks out of each section

Note: the platform has been pushed against the wall to support the fencing, I don’t expect passengers to have to leap three foot from the coaches onto the platform :jester:

Controversial I know but this is how I imagined the fenced off water crane would look to take the eye away from the baseboard join

I may need to further reduce the length of the fixed panel as I don’t want the post on the edging stone

To further justify the need for fencing I’ve had this 3D printed

Whether I’m able to paint it is another matter

I drew the sign based on a photo I’d found on the net and sent the drawing to Tim at CWRailways, it was touch and go as to whether it would print as I pushed the boundaries with regards to thicknesses etc but it’s turned out really well

As have the drain, grid and hopper for the water crane he also printed for me

The quality of prints done by CWRailways are superb

I had indented to paint the fence with Vallejo ‘Aged white’ however after doing a test piece it was too yellow for my liking so I’ve mixed 20 part white to 1 part burnt umber which I hope (when dry) is a more subtle

It looks quite a bit different in the spray booth due to the LED lighting.......I hope

Following on from an earlier question regarding the positioning of the fence the general consensus was for it to be over the edge of the platform

This presented a small problem in that the posts weren’t long enough and even if they where there isn’t a flat surface because I’ve used platform edging on the back

So after scratching my head I’ve made some ‘feet’ that hook on the underside of the edging stones for the posts to sit on

This is just a trail on a scrap piece but it looks like it could work, also added a strip for reinforcement (luckily you don’t see the back)

I just need to do it on the actual fencing now

When working on fiddly things like this I really wish I could afford O gauge (and have the space)

Unfortunately it wont completely disguise the baseboard/platform joint as I couldn't get it right on the edge but I'm hoping it will at least help to draw attention away form the join?..........although knowing my luck it will probably do the opposite

Yes I know I appear to have missed a bit when spraying the fence :o but it looks like I need to do a bit of tiding up anyway as the only thing that would hold was superglue

Could the standpipe use a small brass etched drain cover below it maybe?

Just waiting for the ballast to dry before I can do any more

I'm quite a patient person but I’m certainly tested when it comes to waiting for things to dry

Just hope it drys the same colour and blends in

While that’s drying I thought I’d better stick the gutters and downpipes on the engine shed, still need to do the other side and weather them

and as @Stubby47 has suggested I’ll add some green weather powder to the bottom of the shed to simulate moss etc
