More messing about

And a mock up of the station building position, the wall is annoyingly not as flat as I thought it was so it’s the best I can do with what I have

Yes I’ve had to redo the roof, bargeboard and chimney on the station masters house due to a slight mishap :( (that I’d rather not talk about how clumsy I can be sometimes)

However, turning a negative into a positive it’s given me the opportunity to do a better job of the chimney and I’ve positioned it flush with the back (hopefully to give the impression that it’s deeper than it actually is)

I’ve also done the flashing on the chimney before gluing the chimney on the roof, I just need to add micro strip around the base to hide any gaps....and there are gaps, I don’t think Peco gave much thought to the chimneys

It’s amazing how such a small and silly thing like chimney pots can make a big and not so silly difference

Bargeboard made and painted, just the part I don’t like now.....watching paint dry!

The rod on the back is just a temporary thing to give me something to hold whist airbrushing

Once dry I can lightly weather it before gluing it on to cover the tan line on the station masters house

I’ve had a e-mither from Narrow Planet to review the artwork which means I’ll hopefully getting the etched door signs soon

each one measures 1.5mm high and from the artwork look approx 6mm long (they would have been too long had I not opted for the narrow font)

I’ve gone for black on nickel silver, they should look quite good on the doors

I'm going to hold off on gluing in the doors until I’ve attached the signs

I didn’t like the double doors that came with the Peco country station kit but only because each door would be too narrow for a sign so I’ve made a door made up of a full size single with glazing and half a full panel door, I’ve used thin styrene strip to frame around the perimeter to make up for difference in size which I’ll leave white (personal preference)

Well my mind is in the gutter again, I’ve started to add the gutters and downpipes

I've added 1.5mm strip to the underside of the gutters.....

.....mainly to give a larger surface area to attach them with but also to give the appearance of fascia boards

Also added very thin strips on the back of the downpipes to space them away from the wall enough to clear the step at the base of the building

I’m getting back into the swing of things now although I’m still yet to tidy up the layout room, I can’t imagine why I keep putting it off

doors now painted and dry....ish

as previously mentioned I won’t attach them permanently until I’ve fitted the door signs and lightly weathered them but they’ve turned out quite nicely

Having struggled to find things and vastly reduced my work area I’ve gotten around to tidying up the layout room so I now know where everything is and more importantly I have a decent area to work on again

So I’m feeling much better in myself now and can crack on next week

I know I’ve done it before but with having to redo the roof and chimney on the station masters house I think I’ve done the flashing a little bit neater this time?

I tackled it differently by adding it to the chimney first before attaching it to the roof which has worked out better than last time. I also took extra special care with the strip covering the gaps this time

Below is before and after adding the strip (0.25mm x 0.5mm evergreen stripstyrene)

Before (chimney on the waiting room)

After (chimney on the station masters house)

Only subtle but having a gap between the chimney and roof.....

......even a teeny tiny one was affecting my OCD

I don’t know if it’s of interest but I finally managed to have a little time to myself this afternoon to finish the flashing on the other chimneys so I’ve taken shots of each step

using 0.25x0.5mm styrene strip the start is pretty straight forward

9903F284-70B6-4E7D-B824-EDCDD332A16D.jpeg.2ba1dc78087c4ad34a9a97683392f50c.jpeg

Using an off cut roof section as a guide I bent the strip over the edge and cut it back

E25D5709-BDD0-4482-AADC-64F644B4BA0B.jpeg.063c62b42e6efa6a00c6d250648ee4a8.jpeg

The ridge piece was a little more challenging, using an off cut ridge piece I formed the shape

The final step is to simply glue it in place one side at a time allowing the first side to cure before doing the second (not long to wait using plastic magic liquid cement)

End result

Hope that’s of help/interest to anyone

Very very clever. Great attention to detail, and as usual you do it so neatly.

Nice job Chris,

Al.

Thanks Al

Having been inspired by yourself, @Stubby47 and many others I’m attempting to do the booking office interior

Ive not got a lot of room to play with though

Its just to give the impression of a booking office but I’m making it up as I go along without my usual ‘draw it on CAD first’ method

So this is Mark one of many no doubt

Thanks Al

I’ve trial fitted it (hence the odd chunk cut out of the top edges) and give it a blast of primer

Its a shame the ‘planking’ isn’t more defined

You're welcome to take back the ‘neat work’ comment because it looks like I’ve cut out the ticket window with my teeth

luckily I’ll be framing it so hopefully won’t look as horrendous

But once it’s in place you’d be hard pushed to see much of it

Tomorrow I’ll paint the top half cream and paint up some doors.....and maybe put up some posters and a timetable

Unfortunately the poster boards are too big to fit so I may have to revert to plan B and print off my own or just paint up some notice boards I’ve got but otherwise I’m quite pleased

Still waiting for the paint on the doors to dry
