brian daniels
Before I put some windows in and glue the roof down I thought I had better tone down the insides of the white walled ends with a wash of thin roof dirt colour. Before, nice and white. After, toned down a bit.

I must put the windows in the shark and glue the roof on but so many other things keep popping up,doh. Hi Brian, I missed you! LOL!! Hope you had a good time. Was that the pair off Warships that you did that I spied on the Tower stand? BTW as anyone got some photos on the inside of the verandas on a shark? Where all the wheels arranged like that? The reason why I ask is that mine is different. ATVB CME
brian daniels
Sorry to have missed you at Reading, didn't think it was that big there to miss someone! Those Warships are Tower's painted samples, nothing to do with me but I did paint the 25. Here are some pictures of the Shark interior. I picked up 4 JLTRT MkI's at Reading to make a 4TC I am using an end from Peter Clark from his 4 CIG kit. It will need a bit of work to get the extra door and cab side windows into it. Thanks for the photos too, I think mine must be wrong then, unless there is another version of the wheels/brackets - but its good to know - whilst I have the roof off I shall probably modify them. I did wonder about the Tower stand Warships, not wishing to sound sycophantic, but your versions looked better, not sure as to why, fit and finish and overall proportions of the livery application? And yes in the same vein I thought the Cl25 looked better, very nice, although the bogies looked quite a long way back from the draw-bars - that could just be my interpretation though - a nice looking model over all though. Love what you are doing with the MK1's (4TC) Thanks, kindest regards and the season's greetings to you and yours, CME Edited December 10, 2015 by CME and Bottlewasher
brian daniels
I have been building one of the JLTRT Prestwin wagons. I like the fact that these could be built in an evening. Well you could if the packing department had packed the bits for a 12ft wheelbase kit and not mixed them up with the 10ft wheelbase kit. So if you get one of these I would recommend you check all the lost wax castings against the list of parts list. But everything was sorted by Laurie in double quick time. If anyone wants to build one the pipework on the top can seem a bit daunting but after consulting pictures on Paul Bartlett's excellent website I managed to sort it out. Anyway here are some pictures of it that show all the details. I have added a small piece of flat brass strip to support the bottom of the handbrake guide. The brake rigging is a bit basic underneath as Pete Waterman admits that they just could not find any info on it, so if you have any he would like to hear from you. The buffers take a while to drill out to make working. The lampbracket is from Slaters as there was not one in the kit and I forgot to ask Laurie for it but I had these in stock. The body is separate from the chassis at the moment as it will make it easier to paint should I decide to paint the whole chassis black. But looking at pictures I think the solebars might be bauxite. The linkages you could probably design as you go along. Would they have the same arrangement as the presflo perhaps? brian daniels
These 12ft wheelbase ones do not have stretchers between the blocks! The 10ft wheelbase ones do. I have toyed with the idea of a short train of those for the 'Martini branch' (any time any place anywhere) on Down Ampney. Nice to hear you recommend them - looks like minimal soldering too? brian daniels
Had a bit of time to do some work on the 4TC. I filled the windows with a thick piece of plasticard in the rear recess where the glazing goes. Then I put a thinner piece into the front and filled the edge with Davids Isopon. I have got hold of some scrap sides from JLTRT to use the doors from them in the filled in vestibule window. Just got to get the bottle to cut the side in two!
brian daniels
Got the Prestwin painted and lettered just before crimble. Makes a very nice addition to my train from Peak Forest with my Conflat L's and Presflos. More on the TC to follow.

Pete Harvey
Why Green on the buffer assemblies? Pete
brian daniels
I have been slowly doing the fronts and adding the extra door to the TC, after a few stiff drinks! (ok, strong tea actually) The bogies are from Peter Clark's 4 CIG/VEP kits that Dave Parkins did years ago. The only problem is that the bolsters are an etch on the main frets. Might have to get some made. Pete also supplied them with only one correct end stretcher for an EMU style B4 so that needs sorting. I got the front of the corridor connection from Peter as well and the two etched steps under the pipe recess. I made the gangway up from K&S brass stripe. The front gangway etch needed narrowing as it was etched the same size as the base one so it would not be able to go inside it. I am thinking of trying to spring these. I removed the hinges and filed the bottom of the front doors so they represent the inward opening ones now. The new door is glued into place and a door stop rubber sliced off the scrap sides and then glued into place here. For some reason the top right corner of the roof stuck up so a bit of filler is needed to build up the casting. Fronts are now filled and rubbed back. Will have to add the door strips either side of the doors and a bit along the lower edge of the sides with plasticard.
JeffP
Don't know if this is right, but quite often new buffers were fitted and were often left in undercoat...which was pale green? I have a pic somewhere of a class 20 with one green buffer.
brian daniels
Yes Jeff that is why I did the Prestwin with them, something a bit different in the train. I did one of my JLTRT class 20's the same, a nice little detail that makes a nice change. Done a bit more filling on the TC ends, will try and add the door strips later.

brian daniels
A quick question for all you 7mm coach modellers out there, who does these roof vents that the majority of TC's use? JLTRT supply all their MkI's with ridge vents. I need 4 coaches worth of these with the opening at the bottom each side. I think Westdale did them? Thats a good question Brian, I have searched for those too. Are Westdale still doing a bit - despite their challenging circumstances (worth a phone call)? What about the likes of Premier or Roxey - or perhaps Shawn at Easy Build, maybe Pete Cowling?? Apologies that I cant be more definitive, if I have any inspiration, then of course I will let you know. ATVB CME
