RMweb Premium melmerby Posted February 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 1, 2020 (edited) Hi all Just a heads up that the film "The Train" with Burt Lancaster is on TV again. It's on BBC2 at 1550, Sunday. It's about the resistance trying to stop a train full of looted French art being taken to Berlin. If you haven't seen it it is worth a look, just for the use of real trains, rather than models for the action scenes. Filmed near Rouen; an acquaintance's grand-father was station-master at one of the stations used for filming.
philsandy
Regardless as to whether you have any interest in railways or not, this is a terrific film, a great story, and one of my all time favourites. No special effects or CGI here, the train crashes are for real.

RMweb Premium Ian Morgan Posted February 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 1, 2020 and the scene where Burt Lancaster remetals a bearing is instructional, and appears to have been shot in a single cut.

It should be available for a few days. I caught up with viewing it late last night. Viewing it on a large screen for the first time it was quite revealing in showing up some details of the track.
