Florence Locomotive Works
I was wandering around the Binns Road website the other day and found a picture of this supposedly LNER 40t hopper wagon. Did it actually exist? I ask as I’m thinking of making one out of a Lionel tank wagon. Here’s the link http://www.binnsroad.co.uk/railways/bonds/index.html, it has another not very helpful picture. The model was made by Bond’s of Euston Road, who I would have expected to research whatever they decided to model, being such good friends with the prestigious Bassett Lowke company. RMweb Premium J. S. Bach Posted September 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 9, 2020 That looks almost like a PRR class H30 hopper. Ditch the buffers and link couplers, replace them with knuckle couplers and replace the archbars with Andrews trucks. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=prr+h30+hopper&t=ffnt&atb=v170-1&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.antiquesnavigator.com%2Farchive%2F2015%2F11%2F25%2F121820041803.jpg

I may have a think about switching the wheels out for some spoked ones, (and putting the old wheels in a safe place), instead of wrecking a Sunoco tanker.

The Lionel one is a little under size for American O but might be a good match for the LNER hopper. Please note that the Lionel trucks are a bit wider than scale to accommodate the pizza-cutter flanges, whatever wheelsets you get will need somewhat longer axles. I have had that problem when two-railing a couple of Lionel HOOKER tankers.
Fat Controller
There was a prototype for the model; the NER built them for a flow to Blyth Staithes, possibly from Ashington. 1 1

Darryl Tooley
There is a photo of NER dia P14 hopper No 100011 as built in An Illustrated History of LNER Wagons Volume 2 (Peter Tatlow, 2007). It can be seen to closely resemble the wagon in the OP's photo, except for plate frame bogies, a rather shallower solebar, and extra platework partially infilling the area below the diagonals at the sides. The lettering on the OP's wagon is LNER era, and the colour is presumably correct; these wagons were AVB fitted, at least when new. Tatlow tells us that these wagons were sold for colliery use in the 40s, where they survived till the mid 60s. D
