Markmiller2008
Hi All Has anyone else got spoked wheels in their Hornby Tarmac PGAs? I've just bought three sets (12 wagons) and all of them have spoked instead of disc wheels. I've contacted Hornby for a explanation but just wondered if I've got a QC issue or a wider problem. Thanks Mark
RMweb Gold BR Blue Posted September 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 21, 2020 (edited) The picture on the Kernow website is showing spoked wheels as Kernow have gone to the trouble of photographing the actual wagons released: http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/56248/R6829-Hornby-PGA-Hopper-Wagons-Tarmac---Three-Wagon-Pack Other retailers have the pre production photos from Hornby with the correct wheels. Is it any wonder Hornby have such a poor reputation for many of their post steam era models. Attention to detail/QA always seems to be an issue unfortunately. lyneux
That is absolutely shocking. They clearly don't bother with quality control any more. Mark, do they still have the Lima 'shortie' axles (24 mm)? Guy Edited September 21, 2020 by lyneux

RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted September 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2020 Replacing the wheels shouldn't be too hard. But it is a schoolboy error.

That's my point, i shouldn't have to fork out for 24 wheels having spent £140+! And being the shorty Lima axles could cause an issue.
lyneux
They will definitely be harder to source on short axles. DCKits do them for £2.80 an axle: https://www.dckits-devideos.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=176&product_id=829 So that's £67 worth of new wheels! Might as well go P4 Mark! G. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted September 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2020 A truck tuning tool will allow 26mm pinpoints to fit comfortably in, for the wider gauges a trimming of the reinforcing upright wth a chisel will allow this too.
