webbcompound
I think the biggest impact (mentally and physically) is the speed and volume at which information is transmitted, which has increased exponentially in the last decade or so. All this impacts on us mentally in ways we never evolved to handle. As for the speed of transmission in the physical world: it took five years for the Black Death to reach Scotland from its origin in central Asia. Flight time from Wuhan to Edinburgh is apparently 11 hours and 20 minutes. This also impacts us mentally in ways we never evolved to handle. Apparently everyone on Elizabeth Is Privvy Council had killed at least one man face to face. Our own government has only made killings on things like the derivatives casino. Which probably leads to far more deaths wordlwide. Hmm. So are there any houses for sale or rent in 1905 West Norfolk? I may be interested in moving there. 3 1 1

Hroth
If I shrank enough to take residence, my only consolation is that in 10 years time I wouldn't have any worries about being conscripted. Not that I would be conscripted now, if it were then, if you see what I mean... Anyhow, I'd have enough on my plate, worrying about the Daily Mail and its Prussian invasion scare stories, and the lack of Naval patrols off Doggerland, despite that sensationalist novel by that Childers chappie! (Though Clara Dollman sounds interesting...) Edwin Poots? A name that is a hostage to fortune... Mind you, his creationist beliefs are entirely in line with a former Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, who believed that the earth was created in 4004BC, in October, on the 29th. Must be something in the water! 3

It'd be good to see him getting first-hand experience of Global Warming, habitat attrition and being a member of an extinction event. As for playing the organ, intensive training using the traditional methods of the 19th Century American circus should be a salutary experience too. Continuing the evolutionary reversal to the point where we were all birds, I used to have a canary that had a striking resemblance to President Trump as he still calls himself except not being orange enough. Nearholmer
I’ve often wondered whether Weedon Grossmith was named after the place of his conception, being a fairly obscure place in Northamptonshire. I can’t think of any other valid reason to name a child Weedon. 1

I can think of invalid reasons, especially if he was the younger sibling (as I understand was the case). Somehow the name didn't catch on, unlike Florence, whose parents were careful, after having made the mistake of naming her elder sister after a suburb of Naples. Nearholmer
I wasn’t thinking hard enough: “His mother was Louisa Emmeline Grossmith néeWeedon (d. 1882).” And, I still hold that Weedon is an obscure place. Ask a thousand people on the street (not in Weedon, obviously) and I’d wager they’ve never heard of it. Edited May 16, 2021 by Nearholmer 1
