spikey
I have a requirement for a few sheets of brick/stone paper, which I will need to cut it into strips about 25mm deep, then join the strips end-to-end to give me a total run of about a metre. We are talking 4mm to the foot and I'm not fussed whether it's brick or coursed stone, but ideally it needs to be aged/weathered or otherwise "old". Given that I've not used modern brick papers before and I don't have the means to print out the Scalescenes (?) ones, can somebody please suggest one or two that might fit the bill?
RMweb Gold 08221 Posted November 12, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 12, 2020 I’ve just got some Scale Model Scenery 4mm engineers blue brick sheets which appear to be very good. Take care and stay safe.
Pete the Elaner
I don't know who made it but I saw some textured brick paper at Milton Keynes MRC's show, I think last year. It looked like it had been printed on lightly textured wallpaper. It was really effective, so may be worth looking for.
brossard
My brickpaper of choice is Scalescenes, however, if you haven't got a printer, Redutex is probably worth a look, a bit pricey IMO: https://tienda.redutex.com/en/12-modeling_textures John
toplink@()1989))((
As mentioned before, there is a supplier of textured aged brick papers, I have used and intend using them again though in 7mm scale. They do them in several scales and you have to buy several sheets but they are a reasonable price. Now the down side, it is an Ebay supplier and I don't know how to post a link, sorry. He is based in Greece, or Cyprus, I forget which, and has an extremely large range so you will need to get settled down and start scrolling, there is a lot of dolls house products on there but in my opinion, it's worth the effort. If you Google brick papers and ebay it should get you on the way. I've just had a look and he's called starboc1 16 sheets HO scale £16.75. (just an example), go to his shop and you will find 00, 1.76. Cheers, Pete.
silverlink
This is a link to the guy in Greece, I've bought loads of different sheets from him and never had any problems. Only two weeks ago I had a delivery which took approx one week. This is a link to him and if you go to other items top right of the page that comes up there are lots of different types available. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-SHEETS-BRICK-stone-wall-PAPER-20x28cm-O-Scale-BUMPY-EMBOSSED-n6h7/392263132333 This is one of my scratch built buildings I made using his paper. Thanks Ian Hi Ian, Can you tell me how flexible these sheets are, please? I need to build some stone supporting walls on my 009 layout. They all need to be curved between 9 and 12 inch radius. Would these be any use to me? Best Wishes Andy
silverlink
Hi Andy, Sorry for the delay in responding, the printing is done on a type of embossed wallpaper so you should have no problem bending it. I've been putting on buildings corners where there is no problems. I use UHU glue on both paper and whatever I'm building leaving it fro a couple minutes before sticking the two sides together. Thanks Ian 1

Ben Alder
Highly recommended and easy to work with. Here is an example of the embossed stone sheet.
Gravy Train
It is all determined from what distance the model is to be viewed, the closer up you view it, then you need to have definition, in the stonework, brickwork, if at a reasonable distance, then paper, photographic, printed brick or stone will suffice. It’s just my opinion.

Andy 17
@Ben AlderDid you glue the embossed stone sheet on to plastic, if so was it with UHU glue?
Ben Alder
The shed was a laser cut wooden kit so I used Copydex. Haven't used these papers on plastic yet but my usual adhesive for that is solvent free Evostick. For hard surfaces I coat both sides and let it dry off for a while and for card or paper I lightly cover both and apply while wet. HTH
gordon s
A pack of stone sheets arrived today, so certainly quick service from Greece. Unless I missed it, I have one minor comment. The stonework is printed in portrait format, whereas landscape in my mind would be more useful, bearing in mind the height and width of 00 buildings and retaining walls. Having checked, I can see the larger scales are in landscape format, so seems strange why these are portrait. Nothing I can’t deal with, but landscape would have made life easier. gordon s
I thought I’d ordered the right one, but perhaps H0 was wrong. gordon s
Had an interesting exchange of emails with the supplier in Greece. There were some minor language difficulties, but he offered me this sheet which he says is landscape. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/393082834900 He is now sending me another 12 sheets for the postage cost of £3.50 and no need to return the others, so no complaints from me there. There is however one thing where I think there could be a problem. The supplier has a wide range of products and within a few minutes I noted down 6 pages as follows. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16-SHEETS-EMBOSSED-BUMPY-stone-paper-20x28cm-1-87-ho-textured/393009597908?hash=item5b81328dd4:g:ZI8AAOSwS3pfthlM https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16-SHEETS-stone-wall-20x28cm-OO-1-76-gauge-Embossed-BUMPY-LANDSCAPE-PAPER-a5/313312563308?hash=item48f2e2506c:g:y~EAAOSwnbZfu2CW https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16-SHEETS-EMBOSSED-BUMPY-BRICK-stone-wall-20x28cm-scale-OO-1-72-paper-LANDSCAPE/392282254156?hash=item5b55d82b4c:g:cZEAAOSw6X1cR3oW https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16-SHEETS-rock-wall-20x28cm-1-32-paper-scale-landscape-EMBOSSED-bumpy-b3GG/393022826394?hash=item5b81fc679a:g:woEAAOSwHVVftggm https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16-SHEETS-stone-wall-20x28cm-OO-1-76-gauge-Embossed-BUMPY-LANDSCAPE-PAPER-a1/393028183674?hash=item5b824e267a:g:EPQAAOSw2Olfu2Gs https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16-SHEETS-EMBOSSED-BUMPY-BRICK-stone-wall-20x28cm-SCALE-HO-scale-1-87/313101168941?hash=item48e648b12d:g:Ru0AAOSwH4FZymMA What concerns me a little is that there is no real part numbering system and the examples above show some similar sheets with either no part number or a different part number for what appears to be the same product. Add to this that I got portrait format and Ben got landscape format for what appeared to be the same thing and some alarm bells are ringing. I certainly like the material, but without some form of part number control you could find it difficult to get an identical item some weeks later. I suspect that like wallpaper, there could be colour differences between batches, but that can be dealt with with weathering. Of more concern is the portrait/landscape issue where the supplier doesn’t appear to have part numbers or control of the finished product. No problem if you only have one or two buildings to do, but it could be an issue where you have a considerable length of retaining walls to complete over several months.
