If we start from the angle that philosophy is about asking questions to which the answers may be difficult, then you seem pretty good at it already...

A University finals paper in Philosophy consisted solely of the words:

"Is this a question?"

A student thought and wrote for less than a minute, stood up and left the exam hall. That student was awarded a First, having written "If that is a question, then this is an answer".

Back, more or less on track. I have bought a Ratio 553 signalbox interior and proceeded to chop it about a bit.

I also have a whitemetal kit and whilst the lever frame is more compact, there's so much flash and deformation about it, I will just be raiding it for bits like the token machine, telephone etc. It's a pity because the metal kit is less generic.

Like my childhood bicycles, I will make one that works out of what I have lying around.

It's usually more fun, though in this case I won't be looking for a prize for accuracy. Having said that, you probably won't be able to see much when the roof is on, but an empty signalbox stands out a mile.

As you can see, my workbench is meticulously organised....

Have you looked at the Modelu signal box interior bits?

Also, to the question "Why?", a student was awarded an upper second for replying "Why not?", but the one who wrote, "Because" got a first.

I would have responded with the eternal uncertainty of "IF".

The biggest word in any spoken  language.

I've still got the theme tune to The flashing blade stuck in my head @Regularitythanks a bunch...

The mental jukebox is jammed on F38.

Miss Riding Hood has suggested doing what you do with any malfunctioning jukebox and kicking it...

I thought the biggest word was pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and the second biggest was Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

"It's right to fight for what we want, and all that we believe."

Scary line, when you think about it: jihad/crusade, anyone?

Still, "As long as we have done our best, then no one can do more."

That's a good line for railway modellers.

Well you get an F in Philosophy.

Enough of the F in Philosophy...

How about a TV show that I only have a vague recollection of except for the theme tune that won't go away?

We have several 80 year old belt buckles carrying the motto: "God with us"...

Obviously he wasn't, because they lost the war, militarily at least.

So how come everyone thinks that God is on their side?

Either:

There is no god.

There is a god but he likes to prank people.

Discuss.

I can think of several occasions where I'd I had just done my best, that would have been the end of me.

Actually, before you debate this, you need to define your terms.

What do you mean by "God"? What form, what nature? Transcendent or immanent?

You missed the third option: they think their idea of God is on their side.

Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.
The argument goes something like this: "I refuse to prove that I exist,'" says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."
"But," says Man, "The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED."
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
"Oh, that was easy," says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

Van driver said he didn't see it.

I suspect that the girl on the bicycle has taken avoiding being run over to the opposite extreme by shooting the next driver at the crossing.

Seems eminently sensible.

@wiggoforgoldput me on to the modelu site for more signal box interior parts.

"Signal Box Interior – Modelu" https://www.modelu3d.co.uk/product-category/detailing-components/signal-box-interior/

So I thought I would share it. I have had a quick look at their figures before, I probably only need half a dozen for the whole layout, another case of not overcrowding and keeping the open look. In which case I can happily justify the extra cost.

When I look at some of the older 4mm layouts that are impressively detailed, the figures are the giveaway.

Of course I will be spending a fortune on figures for locos and brake vans...

They really are very good indeed, and make a mockery of some of the hideously deformed creatures that we all used to crew our trains with.

From a respectful distance they can easily fool the eye:

It's wonderful discovering all the things that a graphite stick can be used for. As well as a lubricant, rail top treatment and putting a metal sheen on things, I use it on card edges to cover the white on my Scalescene builds. Grey looks better than stark black felt tip and it doesn't bleed into the surface either. Some of the best modelling money I've spent.
