thattroikidd
The train that will never arrive. Hornby have just secretly done a price increase on the Azuma from £434.95 to £477.99 without notifying anyone. This locomotive was released at a RRP of £395.99 when announced This was meant to be with us in October 2020, but was delayed until December. Then again delayed, to then be hit with another price increase. £170 increase in less than two years is a joke.

andyman7
Since it has been announced shipping costs have gone through the roof and there are all sorts of production and supply chain issues that didn't exist 2 years ago. It's tough but the costs have to be paid somewhere. 2
virginhst539
Just checked my invoice for the 'Celebrating Scotland' Azuma. £355.99 is the price on it when placed on the 15th of January 2020, Now listed with Hornby at £434.49. Like wise last years pre orders placed Jan 2021 consisting Pride 390, DRS mk1 RU and Sentinel Shunter all in 8 Products coming to a total of £545.32. This order now comes out at £740.47 going off todays prices (03/01/22) with the class 390 + coaches now costing more than the original complete order at around £593. Keeping the Azuma on Order but as for the 2021 pre orders they are just going to have to get binned as I cant justify shy of £200 extra and I don't expect my local shop to absorb the cost when they do arrive and payment is made. There is also the point of this is the price now and depending when stuff arrives it could be subject to another price rise so will just need to wait and see i guess

virginhst539
just having a look at the Hornby 2022 release video on YouTube and the extra 4 coaches at last is a great addition BUT.... when Simon started listing the types something did not sit right so I done a bit of digging. Looking at the pictures of the celebrating Scotland pack and cross referencing the coach numbers it seems that with the new pack you end up with an extra MC and short a MF. The new Azuma pack due November 22 this is not an issue and the pack balances out as shown in the table attached but is this maybe a wrong coach number on the pre production pictures on there site or is it a case of pair the two new packs together and forget about the other two? yes I know the pack is for a 801/2 so would need renumbered anyway but it seems odd to get the formation right for one and not the other two. Also I would imagine there might be a bit off difference between a MC and MF in terms of underframe and roof layout?

I was under the impression the coach pack was for the new release later on this year. Hopefully then don't forget about the Celebrating Scotland pack and release a set specific for this. Unless of course they change the pack before it comes out. Seeing the 5 car released a few days ago is 2 years late. I doubt the Celebrating Scotland pack will be in anytime soon.
virginhst539
Coaches in both variants seem to be the same when looking at the info in the ICRS Uk Combined. Main difference is the 800/1 is Bi-mode where as the 801/2 is electric (does mention it is fitted with emergency Diesel power pack) until today its not something I have looked massively indepth to but i guess we can figure it out when we get to see some pre production pics of the 800/

atom3624
Just a question, are these 8WD; centre motor, shafts, twin bogie powered, or like the Pendolino with single bogie and traction tyres? Al.
InterCity80s
If they're the same as my GWR one (Queen Elizabeth II) then they'll be 8WD/twin bogie powered with no traction tyres. I've never opened it up so not sure precisely where the motor is but I assume it's in the centre. Yes, the two new sets are to go together to make a nine car train and so are completely separate from the previously announced Scotland set. I haven't been interested in the Scottish one mainly because I wouldn't be able to extend it to nine cars, so it seemed a bit of an odd choice of model (other than it's a bit different to a standard Azuma) when Hornby didn't have the tooling for the extra cars. However, now they have the tooling they might release a bespoke, correctly numbered coach pack for it. Plus, they released a separate coach pack for the Hitachi test train so it really isn't beyond the realms of possibility that they would do the same again. Al. Centre motor with drive shafts. there is also a fixed NEM pocket with a coupling representation behind the nose cowling.. which is push fitted so multi-working is possible, by removing the Dellner from the NEM pocket, but the fixed pocket may limit the coupling types that can be used on curves. virginhst539
How are the interior lights with the white body? I know the Hitachi prototype model suffered a bit of light bleed especially round the cab doors. I must admit Hornby have got this model bang on the money and I'm actually quite exited for the tartan one arriving now!

And thats where it gets you… heres a few pictures at different lighting levels.. I cant see me going beyond darkness of the first level myself, not without risking doing myself a mischief in the process, but if your in pitch dark running, you can certainly see the drivers emergency exit. That said a bit of black paint inside would see it off. Edited January 12, 2022 by adb968008 5
virginhst539
Expected there would be a touch round the door where the thickness is presumably less. Nowt a pass of black paint would not sort as you say. Nice to see no bleed from the saloon lights so that eliminates the need to open all the coaches for similar treatment
Bob83a
R3762 is still described on the Hornby site as an 800/1, however the unit number of the model was I believed changed to 800 201 as shown in earlier posts, this means that the model is actually an 800/2. Given that Hornby’s current tooling is only for the 5 car class 800 then the model is now correct in that respect. For ref 800/0. GWR 5 car 800/1. LNER 9 car 800/2. LNER 5 car 800/3. GWR 9 car AIUI as indicated above and in the other class 800 thread just adding a coach pack will not convert a 5 car set to a 9 car set due to the MC/MF issue.
