A step by step would be nice. list of colours used etc. For my mind and in my humble opinion .Your thread on here does recieve a lot of praise but completely lacks any actual constructive criticism. Was kindly give a FREE Expo Airbrush Brush Starter Kit, thanks to the extremely kind staff at my local model shop, Signals Models, Midsomer Norton. They where the ones that got me started in weathering and are really impressed with my work so far. They know all my work tends to be powders based and was wonder if I could give airbrushing a go, to give the models a good base coat like yours. So they gave me this set to have a go will. Only problem is I have no idea where to start or what blend of paints to use to get that amazing base colour like yours (been looking at the Tamiya Paints you recommend, but not sure what colour or blend of colours)! Look forward to the step by step.. regards, Andy (ad1968) Hi Andy, if your referring to post 63, then I can add no more at the moment in case its published in the next year, but just a brief description of the powders and they are from the Carrs range, the white Gel pen is from an art shop and the paint is all Tamyia Acrylics, mainly XF1 Flat Black, Flat Brown, Flat Sand and Flat white. Unfortunately they are all packed away in boxes ready for a House move so I cant get access to he rest of the numbers. It was done to copy a photograph. I have since toned it down a bit as well. Many thanks Callum You luck man Callum, I mix about 50/50 with the Tamyia and just really mess around from there, once you get going its addictive and you will more than likely want a proper compressor as I have for a constant even pressure and a better finish, but its a very good way to start. Just as an aside, the tool holder in the prototype picture is available from 247 Developments and makes a surprising difference to the loco when fitted. Andy Lovely new look Andy! She sure looks like she has seen a bit of action, plus had a clean that my may have felt fond of her! Sort of a bit like the look I went with my latest loco (no where near as good as yours though ) I still have yet to test my airbrush properly, so I my have to give it a good tomorrow. Could you kindly do a step by step guide on how you did the wd? Which paints etc,i love that grotty all over look youve gave it,i cant seem to get the same look by just using powders. The Airbrush and Baby Elephant Compressor came from Everything Airbrush near Bournemouth and worked out about £60 all in. For Loco weathering I like Acrylics, mainly because I work in a Shed and because I can wash everything out under the Tap. I also use Carr's Weathering Powders that I've had for about 20 years, there's a couple of Rust colours a Soot and a sort of Brown / Black mix. I do use Enamels for doing some Dry Brushing as well. For wagons like this, the underframe is moistened with Humbrol 62 Leather and then Rust powders added for a Rust effect. For Locos I use the Tamyia Acrylics, usually XF1 Flat Black a Sandy Colour and Brown. The pot on the left is where I pour all the dregs from the Airbrush and it forms a lovely Brown / Black mix Here are some pics of Q1 I did a little while ago. I also used a 9V Battery for rotating the Wheels whilst Spraying the underframe. A this point most people would consider it finished, but studying photos of Q1's in Service they were in a pretty bad way towards the end, so I set to with some Car's Powders, they come in little sachets but these are decanted into pots for ease of use. Next it had a final Blow over with the Mix from the old Pot from about 6 inches away just to give a final covering of Grime. I hope this is of some help Ben. Thnaks Pete, well early on I didn't bother but now I sometimes use Humbril Matt Varnish, BUT BE CAREFUL of Cab Glazing, it ruins it completely. Andrew P Posted April 11, 2016 Author Share Posted April 11, 2016 Done some weathering for one of the Guys at Club, they came with a really thick high Gloss finish which Ashley didn't want, so a total dusting, a bit extra along the lower body and a better colour for the Roof.
