Cunningham Loco & Machine Works
How about you add some more nice brass pipework (to the steampunk engine)? Yes, brass soldering is surprisingly easy; the trick is getting it in place "just so" before you solder it!
RMweb Gold Corbs Posted February 14, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 14, 2020 I'm searching for some sort of item to fit to the running board forward of the driving wheel, and then plumbing that in somehow. relaxinghobby
A Westinghouse air pump and reservoir cylinder for the brakes, and being Steam Punk they could use it to charge the pressure on the Steam Punk style pneumatic dart guns, for defence. I'm sure that in the Steam Punk world pneumatics and hydraulics were mature technologies, they were in the similar Victorian era. Fittings from Markits Picture from Youtube Picture from Wikipedia on the Isle of Wight O2 class. Lots of plumbing, if you want even more pipes and stuff do a search on United States steamers. 4

relaxinghobby
A pumps a pump I guess what ever it's orientation. On American loco's they had pumps, cylinders, feed water heaters, cooler radiators, clack valves, injectors all over the place. The most Steampunkary locos on home railways where the Joseph Beattie 2-4-0s with a miniature steam engine and flywheel mounted on the footplate to drive the feed water heater apparatus. Gibbo675
27 minutes ago, Corbs said: Can you mount Westinghouse gear horizontally so it's on its side? Hi Corbs, I used to work with air braked steam locomotives that had Knorr Bremse air pumps that had to be mounted vertically because of the way the shuttle valves worked. If they were tipped more than 15* from vertical they wouldn't work, I know this for we used to prop them against a bench to test them with compressed air before fitting them to locomotives. That said, if your engine is made up then so could be the air pumps. Gibbo
RMweb Gold Corbs Posted February 16, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 16, 2020 Ok, cool. Some ideas circulating for a braking system-type thing mounted on the running board. I'm not really going for the combat or industry-style steampunk, more just a lifted version of the Victorian/Edwardian aesthetic, so I'd like to keep it clean-ish.

If people asked you to justify them, you could just give them a steely gaze then wait for them to apologise. 2

RMweb Gold Corbs Posted February 18, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2020 (edited) Nah, I'm fine with these ones. After all if steampunk is open to interpretation then maybe mine is the toned down version Edited February 18, 2020 by Corbs Musings 3
RMweb Gold Corbs Posted February 20, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2020 I de-DCC-ed No.700 yesterday and have been converting it to RC. First tests.... (should really look where I'm going) Think the body isn't quite sitting right. The Rx is located in the bunker but the battery is in the boiler and the link wires may be caught up in there. 7

Sod all room for it in my Irish diesels though, can barely even fit a sound chip and speaker in them

RMweb Gold Popular Post Corbs Posted March 18, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) With the Nailsea MRC show cancelled, the pressure to upgrade the display is relaxed slightly. I have been trying to get some more stock sorted, too, including building some more Alumina wagons for the Tidmouth - Peel Godred run. I now have a rake of 8 shown here being roughly shunted by one of the steelworks locos - a rival metalworking business! Rather than go through them one by one, I wanted to build all 5 at the same time The first parts go together as Slaters' intended. Then the additional height for the covers is done using styrene strip, angle and sheet cut to size. All this plastic takes Revell Contacta Professional so nicely! Additional handholds made from .45 rod. Then eek! RT Models had sold out of covers! I only had 3 left and was on a deadline for the show. I decided to try using Blue and Green Stuff to try and make copies. You pop the blue stuff in a bowl of boiling water, then when it goes malleable, press the master into it and try to wrap the blue stuff around it somewhat. The blue stuff dries tough, but still a little bendy. The green stuff comes in a roll, yellow side mixes with blue side like miliput... and after lots of mixing, gets pressed into the mould and left for about an hour Then when that's hardened you can harvest the spawn Some are rejected but some are good and have the undersides cut and filed to the right height while the top side of the hoppers are made up with footboards. Meanwhile after a coat of Rover Russet Brown (thank you Rover for making such boring colours!) the tedious task of spelling out ALUMINA over and over again begins. I varied the font and combinations of lettering a bit. Pin point bearings for the W irons. Cake them in a grimy wash Then I did the usual thing of removing most of the mess with cotton buds, paintbrush and thumb (thumb is actually quite a good tool) There we go! Doomed to bufferlock until I add some coupling sockets, but I am pleased with them. Edited March 18, 2020 by Corbs 6 1
AlfaZagato
These are such neat wagons. I'm sorry, I know you've mentioned before, but did you source the design from LNER?
RMweb Gold Corbs Posted March 19, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 19, 2020 Yes it's based on the LNER wooden ones converted from coal hoppers for the Burntisland - Fort William traffic. 1 1
