Porcy Mane
In that case, there will be no main Society show apart from the regional ones in far-flung places, which I certainly would not travel to. Ah hah!, So there may be method in the madness? P
Horsetan
Ah hah!, So there may be method in the madness? P There is still the online Forum. They're not going to get rid of me that easily. The loss of being able to see specialist traders and their products actually in front of you would be pretty bad, though.
ANT
It's taken 7 years to reach this stage and the invitation to Railex was just the incentive we needed to push on and get it to the running state we only achieved two nights before the show!! In fact on Saturday morning, before the opening, we painted and cut to size the last backboard and put it in place above the tunnel mouth. Talk about a work in progress! Hello When I was setting up the Club's second-hand stand on Saturday morning, I did wonder what you were cutting up with a saw! Thanks SEEYA ANT
Kenton
Clearly Scaleforum doesn't cut it in the café stakes, then! I have heard that the S4Soc are so disappointed with attendances at S4UM that they are thinking of abandoning the event. It no longer makes a profit. A bit rash making that based on one show. The Leatherhead venue was good and possibly better than the hot metal box of SM. It will take time for folk to get used to the move - just as it did with expoEM's move to Bracknell. I have to say I hardly ever use the catering at any show so it is the least important item for me. Railex's importance is that it is not a "fine scale" promotional show and very much all welcome. But with the caveat that it always attracts the finest scale layouts (all scales, eras and gauges welcome). As said it is quality that counts with this show not the number of layouts. Solderpete
One of my favourites - an unexpected "find" for me was Grindley BrookGB1.JPGGB2.JPGGB3.JPGGB4.JPG Glad you liked Grindley Brook Gilbert. Only the second time the layout has been shown and lots more work to do on it but the basics are done now so each show we do from now on it will look slightly better (we hope). David Bigcheeseplant
I better get started on the promotion for Railex 2016. Hope to have a thread on the show in the next few weeks. As for attendance this year I think we were a bit down on last year, but we still did very well. With Derby, Expo EM, Railex and DEMU all in a row and Expo and DEMU having 60th and 21st Birthday shows and in the case of Derby a venue change to the roundhouse, I think it split some attendees, although next year I think there is two weeks between Railex and Expo. We have continued to have more public seating in the hall which seemed to go down well. Our more frequent bus service seemed to get more popular with increased use to around 50 people per trip on the Saturday. David

Sorry to hear of the slight dip in attendance - I think it's fair to say that we were overwhelmed at our attendance at Derby (as were the College staff on catering and parking), obviously helped by the four page article in Railway Modeller featuring the Roundhouse (Thanks to Steve Flint and Peco). We do not expect to quite so busy next year as some will have come to see the building and may not return for another exhibition. We know we have some teething problems to iron out and obviously hope that both Derby and Railex continue to go from strength to strength. Here's to next year ! . RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted May 29, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 29, 2015 ... We have continued to have more public seating in the hall which seemed to go down well. ... I for one appreciated it. I was able to rest my troublesome back for a while without having to leave the main hall and for that I'm thankful.
RMweb Premium 5944 Posted May 29, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 29, 2015 53 weeks till Railex 2016 as we will be on 28th & 29th May Excellent. First time in several years it hasn't clashed with my weekend of days at work! I'll actually be able to get there for once.
David Bigcheeseplant
I have been playing with ideas for next years floor plan, I do try and ensure each year the layout of the exhibition works in the placement of exhibits and traders , but you can never find out until the show opens. We had no demos this year due to lack of space, but do visitors find these of value, last year the Gravetts hands on grass making went down well, and this I think is the way to go rather than someone sitting behind a table showing their examples of what they have done. PenrithBeacon
I wonder if it would be possible to hold illustrated lectures rather than pure and simple demos. One of the issues I have with demos is that the demonstrator always seems to be engaged, quite often in small talk. An illustrated demo/lecture might get over that problem and provide for a larger audience. Regards
David Bigcheeseplant
We don't have a separate room to have lectures at Railex, the room Scaleforum use for lectures we use as a Railex office that need for all sorts of background work over the weekend.
