RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted May 20, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 20, 2015 answer most questions about the show including bus times, how do I get to the balcony, where are the toilets etc! The question I was asked the most whilst setting up the recent Derby show at The Roundhouse was "Where do we go for exhibitor's drinks" to which my standard response was that all the information was in the envelope exhibitors were given on arrival - but of course no one had bothered to open it and find all the information they needed . David Bigcheeseplant
I do pop quite a bit of info to exhibitors in the packs that get sent out a couple of months before the show, although as soon as someone turns up on Friday or Saturday I try and ensure they have a friendly welcome are shown there spot in the hall and where to get teas and coffees. If a layout or trader has travelled many miles to be at an exhibition and maybe had a bad journey got stuck in traffic etc. I think it is only fair to make sure when they arrive that they are met with a friendly face shown where things are and generally made welcome. There is nothing worse than turning up and nobody from the hosting club can be found and you have to work out everything yourself. At Railex we take orders and get fish and chips and other alternates delivered to the stadium which seems to go down well. David
David Bigcheeseplant
For those parking in the stadium car park there are signs saying parking can be for a maximum 2 or 3 hours. Don't worry the number plate cameras will be switched off and you can stay at Railex as long as you wish. David
dasatcopthorne
Well, the layout's packed in the cars and ready for the journey tomorrow. Looking forward to a great weekend. Dave Harton Gill Team.
ANT
Hello All Those of you who are taking the advantage of using the Free Vintage Bus, please can you if possible have the exact change for when you are buying your Railex ticket £8 and Programme £1 from the Bus Team, as this will help speed things along. Thanks SEEYAANT
David Bigcheeseplant
Just got back from the stadium to sign for the tables and chairs back again at midday to mark up the floor and wait for the exhibitors. Walls in the stadium now painted a lovely shade of green!
ANT
Hello All Those of you who did not make it to our other exhibition Risex in February, then you would have missed the first outing of Phillip Hutchings superb layout Addison Park, in 3mm, but don’t worry you can see it at Railex this weekend. There was some issues last year about requiring us to go through the stadium car park to get there (supposedly to collect a ticket!) as I know my way around I'd prefer to go direct rather than round the houses and through the stadium and out through the back gate. It seemed a total waste of time last year as others had not picked up a ticket and when I tried none was offered - despite signs in the car park. I don't think I have ever managed to park at the stadium - it is always full of fit young things who are probably more able than I to walk to the overflow. ANT
Hello All Here is a photo taken earlier this evening during setup, by one of our Club members Kevin Wood on his phone, he apologises for the poor quality. Aberbeeg is closest to the camera. Thanks SEEYAANT
bbishop
I'll park in my usual spot. Right beside the entrance. Bill
David Bigcheeseplant
Hi Kenton I am not sure if there are passes for the overspill car park or not, If you want to go straight there I can't see it being a problem.. if people go to the stadium car park first there could be a free space as some of the gym or swim school attendees maybe leaving. Horsetan
My vote for Layout Of The Show goes to Ballyconnell Road, a GNRI masterpiece in 3mm scale. Watch for the working inside motion on quite a few of their engines!
Andy Y
An excellent line-up; well done to David and the team. The 3mm corner was a real highlight, particularly Addison Park - the best 4th rail layout I've seen.
Redkiterail
I had a good show meet St Simon and Andy Y, got a brass kit to learn construction on. Here are my pictures:
Bluebell Model Railway
Was a good show, nice range of layouts some I have seen at previous shows but nice to see them all the same, saw some good friends from clubs, and a couple from here, got there around 12pm apparently rammed in the morning so please that the crowds had dispersed a bit, easy to move around, nice to see a bit more seating this year dotted around. Generally pretty good, images and videos will be online hopefully by tonight.
RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted May 23, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 23, 2015 A few pics from me (the first few layouts, there are others which I'll post up when I have a bit more time), a bit grainy unfortunately due to my old camera's poor low light capability: Aberbeeg: Addison Park: Ballyconnell Road: Black Country Blues: Corris Railway: Frecclesham:
Velopeur
A really excellent exhibition with real quality layouts. It was really great to have the privilege of seeing Corris again after a long gap.
ANT
Hello All Well, a good day today at Railex. I spent most of my day on the Club's Second-Hand Stall, though got away at lunch time to take some photos from the balcony. I shall be on the stand again most of tomorrow, but want to get away to photo some of the layouts later in the afternoon. Come and say Hi. Thanks SEEYAANT
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2015 Looks like a great show, sadly I can't make it this year. I particularly regret not being able to see the Corris layout in the flesh this time, also BCB...
dibateg
Another excellent Railex, and it was well worth the 6 hour round trip from mid Wales. All the visiting layouts were worth seeing and I cannot pick a favourite, although I might be biased to the large O gauge ones..... A most enjoyable day, it took 3 hours to do my first circuit and we stayed pretty well 'till the end. Good show chaps - well done! Tony
Bluebell Model Railway
Decided to cut my video in half as it was getting a bit long, I am uploading pictures to FlickR also to accompany the videos.https://flic.kr/s/aHskbGSQM3
RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted May 24, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 24, 2015 A few more pics from me from yesterday: Grindley Brook: Loch Tat: Portsea: William Smiths Wharf: There were other layouts (Melton Mowbray North, Warren Lane, Whatlington, etc) that I either didn't get photos of, or my photos just didn't come out well. No doubt other visitors from RMweb will have pics of them.
Leander
A great show! We spent four and a half hours looking at the layouts and browsing the trade stands and really could've spent longer there. I thought that grouping the exhibits according to scale created a really interesting floor plan and spent most of my time looking at layouts that were well out of my comfort zone, being a 4mm scale / EM gauge modeller. It goes to show that we can have much to learn from others modelling in other scales and gauges from the ones that we're most familiar with. Congratulations to David and team on another superb show. I'll have to make another trip next year to see 'Aylesbury' LNWR - oh the hardship of it all!

David Thanks David, Didn't spot your reply before going. Everyone else in the overflow seemed to have stickers on their dashboard. Goodness knows where they got them from. I did ask a couple of the stewards on the main car park but they didn't seem to know about them, and one helpful guy said park anyway! I phoned a friend who generally is in the know about SM Hospital and he informed me that the CCTV was off for the weekend anyway and no patrols checking (cutbacks?) So no problems and no extra walking. Another excellent show with great traders and layouts. I wasn't the only one to notice a distinct O gauge leaning with exhibits this year - but that didn't detract. As always the venue is nearly perfect ... OK it did become a real nuisance to keep exiting via side doors to get the credit card readers to function and as ever it would pass for a reasonable sauna (by US standards) A big thanks to you and your hard working team - always look forward to next year.
